"What an absolute amazing restaurant… I drove up from Sydney with my boyfriend just because and took him to Scottie’s… I thought it would be nice but it wasn’t nice it was fricken amazing from the moment we arrived the staff, atmosphere and overall vibe was great.

"Had the Lobster Club Sandwich & a Peroni beer on Anzac Day at 5pm. Ordered through the hole in the wall & sat at an outside table. It was reasonably busy & a fun vibe. The food definitely wasn't quick but I got handed the beer instantly, and it was a nice place to sit & drink a cold beer & wait. It wasn't cheap... but here's the thing... it was GREAT. It was delicious & a very generous size & a great experience & the staff were great! Will be back soon to try something else."
Paul Smith
"While take away is available, treat yourself with dining in. Dishes are great for sharing and are fresh and delicious. Fantastic wine list. Staff charming and helpful. Handy to the tram and the beach."

Sometimes it’s the lure of a beachside city that draws exceptional chefs which has been the case for Scotties in Newcastle’s East End – located a stone’s throw away from the beach in what used to be a 1950s corner store. It’s a 16-year-old local favourite that in 2019 attracted the attention of Head Chef Joel Humphreys who has worked at such establishments as Rockpool, Bistro Moncur, and London’s St JOHN. With a fresh and sustainable seafood menu that is sourced locally, a cosy, minimalistic interior, outdoor seating and grassed area and a relaxed, neighbourly vibe, it’s a great place to people watch after a dip in the ocean. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this is just a fish and chip shop, although, if that’s what you’re looking for you won’t be disappointed with a choice of Beer Battered or Grilled Fish & Chips.
