Reviews Summary
Jonah's Restaurant & Boutique Hotel is celebrated for its breathtaking ocean views and impeccable service, making guests feel truly special. While the contemporary Australian cuisine, particularly the seafood, is a highlight, some reviews noted that certain meat dishes were underwhelming. The overall experience is highly recommended for celebrations and romantic getaways.
"Jonah’s is an amazing restaurant hidden away in the heights overlooking whale beach.
The atmosphere and the service were the best I have experienced in a long time.
The exquisite food in our 3 courses, a pasta and the prawn entrees, the bug pasta and lamb mains, banana soufflés and pine lime slice for dessert.
The wine pairing was also excellent.
The staff, Neils and Ngouh were excellent in the way we were treated and made feel special, exceptional information on the good and their creations when ordering and when served to the table.
I would recommend this place to visit at least once but it can’t be missed, we will be back."

"An unforgettable winter escape! The ocean view room was even more beautiful than expected. Service was warm and seamless from reception to the waitstaff, sommeliers at dinner, and room service. We opted not to have our champagne on arrival, and they thoughtfully suggested enjoying it as mimosas with breakfast - which we did, and it was perfect. The location was incredible, even in the rain. A flawless dinner and one of the best breakfasts we’ve had made it all the more special. Can’t wait to return!"

"Our family came here for lunch last February. They were able to accommodate our large group after 15 minutes of wait. This restaurant has a long history, and you can't beat the location and hence the views. We enjoyed the terrace area overlooking the ocean which is lovely. The seafood and pasta dishes are quite good, however the duck and lamb are rather underwhelming, they are tough and bland. The desserts are good, however."

The view to Whale Beach was a natural wonder for Sydney's day-tripping set when the restaurant opened in 1929, and the luxe bolthole continues to be a hotspot for weekend long lunches and no-expense-spared weddings. Chef Matteo Zamboni's heritage is on display in Italian-ish dishes such as gnocchi, rich with confit duck and shiitake, while Mooloolaba king prawns are simply grilled to enhance a natural sweetness balanced by green tomato. Crisp- skinned John Dory fillet is served with only brown butter, lemon and parsley to let the wild-caught fish flavours shine, and blushing pink lamb rump is enhanced by traditional mint jelly in a nod to Australian roadhouse menus of Jonah's past.

Almost 90 years on, Jonah’s of Whale Beach is still a big fish in the Sydney dining scene. After the departure of executive chef Logan Campbell, Jonah’s has managed to lure top chef Matteo Zamboni to the post. He’s a great catch, with four Michelin-starred restaurants on his CV, and a raft of experience at similar seaside stalwarts, from Quay to Pilu at Freshwater and Ormeggio at The Spit. Younger and more progressive than chefs past, Zamboni has thrown the old menus out the impressively large windows, to incorporate a string of more playful and imaginative dishes.
