Reviews Summary

Baba's Place offers a unique and visually engaging dining experience with a cozy, grandmother's home atmosphere and innovative Mediterranean-inspired dishes. While many praise the exceptional, unexpected flavors and the lively ambiance, some diners find the portions small and prices high, with a few mentioning issues with service speed and temperature.

"The food was unbelievable that me and my friend could not stop talking about coming back here, its such a homey vibe. From the starters to the desserts we were just blown of how amazing each dish is. I would 100% recommend dining here.

I also just wanna thank ⭐️ Liz ⭐️ she had done and made all this possible for us, thank you for helping us fill our hungry bellies."

"We ordered a number of entrees including tarama toast, house foccacia, beef tartare and the hot and cold eggplant. For mains we had the bbq chicken, lamb chop and roasted flathead. While we did enjoy the flavours of the food, the wait between entree, main and dessert was very lengthy. In addition we did not enjoy the flathead as there was way too many bones which made it difficult to eat. The lamb chops were tiny for a main size as there was a serving of 2 and we were allowed to order one serving of chicken per table. While the chicken was delicious the portion was not sufficient. The sticky date and rice pudding was a pleasant end to the meal. Overall it was pricey for the portions and quality of the meal."

"Fun casual eatery in a wonderfully fitted out warehouse space. It’s artsy and kitsch and every where you look has something to pique interest.

Group menu was a good intro for first timers here like us. We added all the optional items. Would recommend when you’re in the mood for long lunch.

I really enjoyed grazing on the opening dishes especially the yoghurt and dip with house bread. I’m not usually a bread person!

The beef dishes were less memorable for me but full kudos for super tender beef cheeks - that’s patience and love there! Wholesome flavourful food. 3 hours later and we were finally onto the dessert. Good size given how full we all felt at this point!

Really enjoyable experience for the occasion and I’d love to return."

The Best Restaurants in Sydney Right Now

An ode to ‘suburban cuisine’ and the food cooked by babas, served in a kitschy-cool warehouse tucked in the backstreets of Marrickville. Why we love it: Yes, some of the prices at Baba’s Place may make you raise an eyebrow ($69 for half a roast chook?). But few Sydney dining experiences are this original, this joyous and this delicious.

Feast At The Best Restaurants In Sydney | September 2025 Update

Stumble through Marrickville’s industrial backstreets and you might come across Baba’s Place, a homey, living room-esque restaurant behind an unassuming garage door. Through a small doorway, the warehouse space opens into high ceilings, knick-knacky decor and busy tables filled with happy guests. A short but sweet Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-influenced menu offers snacks and bigger share plates, with a neat drinks list spanning Greek, Croatian and Lebanese wines.

Seven of Sydney's best restaurants for solo diners

Persian rugs, religious iconography and an assortment of vintage tableware have turned a Marrickville warehouse into the welcoming living room of a Middle Eastern grandmother. The kitchen-side bar is the best spot for solo diners to sample small plates, particularly if you appreciate a chatty chef explaining the virtues of Afghani bread. The pan fried rice noodle with chickpea miso, taratour and garlic oil ($18) is an unusually delicious combo, packed full of umami.

10 Best Greek Restaurants in Sydney

It’s no secret Marrickville is the coolest place on earth (seriously, look it up) but, somehow we’re still managing to find hole-in-the-wall hotspots that haven’t yet been taken over by the general public. Baba’s Place is definitely one of these. Located just off the beaten track in a warehouse that reeks of rustic charm, this Sydney restaurant is unlike any other, but that’s precisely the point.

Trendy Casual Restaurants in Sydney

The unobtrusive entrance—tucked between mechanics and warehouses in Marrickville’s industrial district, it looks like a garage from the front—isn’t enough to keep Baba’s Place under the radar. On any given night, but particularly Fridays and Saturdays, expect to find the inner west joint positively teaming with locals and—gasp!. —those who’ve made the great journey across the bridge.
