Reviews Summary

Ho Jiak Town Hall is lauded for its exceptional Malaysian fusion cuisine, particularly praised for innovative dishes like the Laksa Bomb and rich flavors in items such as the Moutai Roast Duck and chili crab. Diners frequently highlight the warm and attentive service, contributing to a great dining atmosphere. However, some guests find the wine list to be excessively priced, and a few have noted that spice levels can be challenging even when requested to be milder.

"One of the best Asian fusion spots in Sydney — Ho Jiak Townhall really delivers. Came here with a group of four, and we were all seriously impressed.

The Lobster Surf N Turf was next level — rich, buttery, with just a hint of spice. Moutai Roast Duck was crispy, tender, and had this subtle boozy kick that worked surprisingly well.

Also loved the squid ink pasta with lobster and sea urchin — bold but balanced. The scallops with XO butter? Absolute must-order.

Even the smaller dishes like the nasi goreng and popcorn chicken were solid. Creative cocktails too.Great for special nights or if you’re just keen to treat yourself."

"Went to Hojakka recently to try their new truffle menu! Absolutely delicious! As a big fan of truffle, I was really impressed by how rich and creative the dishes were. The squid ink uni noodles and truffle steamed egg were especially outstanding. Great vibe, friendly service, and perfect for anyone who loves trying new flavors. Highly recommend!"

"All dishes are are soo amazing. Amazing dining experience! The chili crab was absolutely flavorful with a rich, tangy sauce perfect with every bite. The pasta was creamy and luxurious, while the bone marrow added an indulgent touch. The truffle-infused dish was aromatic and delicious. Great food, beautiful presentation, and worth every visit!"

Crunchy-fried cubes of radish cake, smoky with wok hei and coated in dark soy, are topped with blue swimmer crab meat – a finishing touch that encapsulates chef Junda Khoo’s gentle but gripping elevation of Malaysia’s street-food spirit. The recent abridgement of the once-Odyssean menu has clarified Ho Jiak’s mission to uplift Malaysian fare in service of a good time. And while purists are still serviced with the likes of gently aromatic Hainanese chicken rice or dark char kway teow dotted with crisp jewels of pork fat, it’s moments like the thick marrow-filled beef bones coated with thick rendang curry – begging to be scooped out with buttery roti – that take things so thrillingly beyond the street.

For Malaysian-born Junda Khoo, the Lunar New Year brings fond memories of his grandmother’s hot pot. Growing up, his entire extended family would travel to Kuala Lumpur to catch up over simmering pots of seafood broth. “We’d dip the prawns and the fish into the broth, eat, then run off to play with fireworks,” Khoo says.
