What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Margaret is highly praised for its exceptional modern Australian cuisine, particularly its world-class steaks and fresh seafood. The attentive and professional service further enhances the dining experience, making it a top choice for special occasions. While generally lauded, some diners found certain dishes, like calamari, to be less appealing, and a rare instance of poor outdoor seating management was noted.
"I deliberately visit 3-5 top restaurants each week, and I’m on a mission to find Sydney’s best, with restaurants absolutely knocking it out of the park! And this time, I chose Margaret with high expectations for their renowned steak.
I was not disappointed—the steak was cooked exactly to my preferred style and was incredibly satisfying. However, the real standout was their Mushroom Pie, hands-down the best pie I’ve ever had in Australia. The buttery richness filled my mouth with every bite, almost as if the pie was beckoning me to savor it.
Beyond the steak, the Artichoke & Parsnip side dish exceeded all expectations with its delightful flavor.
While I came for the food, I was equally impressed by the restaurant’s attention to detail, which sets a high-end establishment apart. The staff’s attitude, tone, and attentiveness were exceptional—better than many hotels I’ve experienced. They consistently checked on guests with care, though some might find it a bit much. I also appreciated the thoughtful touch of noting on the menu which dishes might take longer to prepare.
These small details made the experience truly special.
Pricey, but worth every penny. 100% will return!"

"First time eating at Margaret and it was a great experience. We booked about 1 month in advance and the restaurant was fully booked on the Saturday evening. Food was delicious and the menu had so many lovely options. Mainly seafood and then a good selection of beef. The 3 mushroom pie deserves a special mention which is so yummy and freshly made (you have to wait 25 minutes). The sashimi tuna was one of the best I’ve ever tried. My husband had a great beef fillet which was perfectly cooked and just melted in your mouth.
Wine and drinks menu was good too. Cocktails were delicious (wish they were bigger). Service was very attentive and friendly but not intrusive or pushy.
I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend for a special occasion."

"I had my birthday lunch at Margaret, and it was really great. As soon as we walked in, the front-of-house staff greeted us with smiles and birthday wishes, which set a nice tone.
Every dish was excellent, especially their seafood menu. The Thai blue swimmer crab salad stood out the most, reminding me of our recent trip to Thailand. The coral trout is worth ordering too.
The steak was the highlight and didn’t disappoint. I wish we’d gone with a different cut, but the ribeye was cooked just right, well-seasoned, with a nice even char.
Overall, Margaret is impressive. The staff, menu, and calm kitchen energy were all top-notch, and everyone seemed like pros. Definitely recommend trying when you’re in Sydney!"
