What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Poetica Bar & Grill receives praise for its exceptional quality produce, creative pairings like beer and oysters, and the primal dining experience centered around fire and charcoal cooking. However, some diners have encountered issues with inconsistent service and occasional misses in food execution, leading to a varied overall experience.
"I rarely review but having been disappointed with several top level restaurants in Sydney of late it was refreshing to find and experience Poetica.
The quality of produce was phenomenal and given that the price was quite reasonable.
Fresh and classic combinations throughout the courses and one notably brave choice for the dessert adding herbs more prominent in a main or entree to round out the dish with some additional flavour. It’s not a unique combination but rarely seen and well executed.
After speaking to the staff to complement them on the meal I was informed of the Michelin experience that went into making Poetica and that’s when my remarkable experience made perfect sense! The balance and quality of ingredients not swamped with pompous flamboyance is evidence itself of Michelin influence.
Not to get carried away but they already have a hat and given the quality it would not take much more innovation to lift this to a many hatted restaurant that will no doubt be a must visit on the North Shore for a premium restaurant with a smart casual feel.
Thank you again to the team! Also loved the wine 🍷"

"I had a fantastic experience dining at this restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by how clean and well-maintained the space was. The environment feels fresh and welcoming, with a stylish but comfortable atmosphere that makes it perfect for both casual meals and special occasions. One of the highlights of the meal was definitely the beer and oyster pairing (such a creative idea! The oysters themselves were incredibly fresh, and the touch of jalapeño added a surprising kick that elevated the flavor beautifully. It’s not something you come across every day, and I really appreciated the boldness of the combination. It worked amazingly well.
You can tell that the staff put a lot of care into the whole experience& they were attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for quality food, great drinks, and a clean, comfortable setting. I’ll definitely be back to try more next time!"

"I had an incredible night at Poetica yesterday. While searching for the perfect restaurant, I struggled to find a place that ticked all the boxes—vibe, food, and location.
Then I came across Poetica, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The pricing was reasonable, especially considering the quality of the meat and other dishes, which were exceptional.
The snapper was superb and the wood fired oven was to die for!
I recommend All my friends to visit and we are more than happy to visit again with our loved ones. Thank you for an awesome experience!"

18 Best North Sydney Restaurants Worth Seeking Out
Poetica skews primal – you realise it as soon as you walk into the airy dining room and see all the meat and seafood in the glass-fronted dry-aging cabinet. Pairing the protein with some old-fashioned funk from fermented and pickled vegetables is also one of the North Sydney restaurant’s hallmarks. Both speak to Connor Hartley-Simpson’s experience: as head chef at the two Michelin-starred Gastrologik in Stockholm, three Michelin-starred Quince in San Francisco and The Charles Grand Brasserie & Bar, in Sydney.

As well as a premium beef selection cooked over fire, menu highlights include oysters topped with melted beef fat (a la flambadou), grilled sugarloaf cabbage with pickled peppers and fried garlic, and dry-aged swordfish that gets flash-grilled after sitting above the fire.

North Sydney is fast becoming one of Sydney’s best foodie suburbs with a slew of new restaurant openings thanks to Etymon Projects, the team behind The Charles Grand Brasserie & Bar, Loulou Bistro, Boulangerie & Traiteur, and Tiva in Sydney CBD. Their latest venture is Poetica Bar & Grill, with raw and cooked starters, moving into ‘charcoal’, ‘wood’, ‘dry-aged’, sides, and dessert. Think smoky, slow-cooked big meats such as whole sirloins, T-bones and tomahawks that hang in the dry-aging cabinet. While we love our steaks, it’s hard to look past the stand-out swordfish.

Poetica presents like the love child of a New York steakhouse and swanky North Sydney diner. The eatery operated by Etymon Projects is like a palace for meat lovers, serving up hefty slabs of beef and fish which have been aged for a more robust flavour. While the Josper charcoal oven and wood-burning hearth are the focal point in the open kitchen, the 120-seater light-filled eatery also features an attention-stealing 700-bottle wine wall and glass-fronted ageing cabinets.
