Reviews Summary

Sean's offers a unique dining experience with a cozy atmosphere and stunning Bondi Beach views, lauded for its farm-fresh, market-driven menu and impeccable service. While many praise the quality of ingredients and the artistic presentation, some diners feel that for the price, certain dishes could be more exceptional, with occasional inconsistencies in execution and value.

"Loved the service and ambiance and most of the food :)
Half of the dishes we loved (pork and parfait), and half were bland (beet starter and mushroom pasta main). The cheese desert was great as were the included oysters.
For the price a few of the dishes could have been better but leaving 5 stars as I love the restaurant being there and overall a great dining experience :)"

"A cozy yet busy restaurant overlooking Bondi Beach. Food is rustic with sizable portions. Hearty but nothing great to write home about. Nevertheless, a nice restaurant when one is out by Bondi Beach."

"Cant get to 5, here's why.. I've been coming here since day 1, and what made this 5 was raw materials, as well conceived as baby Einstein, and as well executed as Marie Antoinette. What then takes the edge off, dropping a star? The service is attentive and friendly but imperfect. For example, twice delivering dishes and not checking drinks. There were a few such minor slips. And, both i and the daily full house are ok with this being a 3 course $140 deal. But please give us some top $ ingredients. Soup, pippies, or chicken livers are the $40 entree choices? I remember high-end items in wonderful creations in the past here. Lamb is terrific for sure and great pasta. But mulloway is running now and used to be on the menu here, as was harpuka. Wonderfully cooked as it was, snapper is terrific, but it ain't coral trout or Murray cod, Mulloway or Harpuka. The desserts are well made but also a little less work (and half a mediocre fig? Really?) than the tarts of old, let alone the quince trifle that should have never left this menu. It belongs in a museum. These are small quibbles, and the bread and amuse are better than ever. Only, I'm 20 minutes stroll away, and enough dollars to come monthly....but for chicken livers, snapper and ice cream, well executed as they were, it feels a little more about what's easy than what's extraordinary. So, if I'm not coming back regularly, it can't be 5* any more."

The 21 best restaurants in Sydney

Sean Moran is one of Australia’s most highly respected chefs, and his signature laid back style is imprinted all over this cosy dining institution — from the wire pendant lights adorned with scallop shells (he made them) to his sister’s paintings on the salon style walls, and the resin-coated oyster shells filled with salt on each table. It’s a set three-course meal (with a choice of three options per serve), so go easy on the freshly baked sourdough and house-churned butter that will land on your table — it’s hard to stop eating it and easy to fill up before the main event arrives. The menu changes daily, and is dependent on the produce from Moran’s farm and the best of locally and ethically sourced seafood, livestock and poultry.

This long-lived dining destination is now open on weekend mornings with a short, sharp take on brekky that includes crumpets, scrambled eggs with spanner crab, and the Nest – two eggs from the Moran family farm perfectly poached and balanced on two crisp, golden brown fried potato hash cakes. Sitting up on a North Bondi hill with spectacular ocean views, this 45-seater restaurant has a small, regularly-changing menu focused on locally-sourced ingredients and produce grown on the owner’s farm in the Blue Mountains. Think scallops, yabbie tails, kingfish carpaccio, and seafood linguini, with a wine list made up of exclusively Australian wines. And for those who like to look at the water, but not eat from it, there are always a few non-fish options.

The Best Restaurants And Cafes In Bondi, Sydney, According To Dale McCarthy

Sean’s Panaroma has been serving Bondi’s community with home-style food since its owner, top chef Sean Moran, opened its doors in 1993. Moran uses only sustainable ingredients sourced from his farm just outside Sydney, and “then turns them into mouth-watering dishes of such delicate simplicity, you’ll want him to cook for you every night. This is home-cooked food like you could never be able to cook at home yourself,” McCarthy says.

Where to eat at Bondi Beach

It has been a mainstay of the menu for 30 years, so you know there is something special about Sean’s roast chicken. This cosy, art-filled North Bondi restaurant has been doing its own thing for three decades, and continues to delight its regulars with farm-fresh produce that hasn’t been fussed over too much. Dinner is now degustation-only but what hasn’t changed is the welcoming vibe and the countless charming details, from the artworks on the wall to the little sea shells in which sea salt, olive oil and butter are served.
