Open since the mid 19th Century and now occupying the heritage-listed old bank in the city centre opposite Bicentennial Park, The Pig and Tinder Box is a Tamworth institution. Enjoy a pizza from their wood-fired oven in a range of flavours or, for the dedicated carnivores, share the International Grandiose Meat Platter. A casual and welcoming environment that’s as suitable for a quick drink as it is a relaxed family meal, there’s also a cocktail menu that balances classic recipes with some inventive suggestions.

Since swinging its doors open in 2015, The Pig & Tinder Box has become one of the must-visit, cool urban dining spaces on Tamworth’s Peel Street. In the morning choose from a classic breakfast meal or one of the Filipino inspired house specialties including Tapsilog and Champorado. If you need a bit of a pick me up or want to celebrate being on holidays try one of the bespoke brekkie cocktails; the Berocca Brekkie Cocktail or Hunni Bee might be the way to go!.

Setting up shop in 1848, The Pig and Tinder Box was one of the first pubs in the New England Region. Fast-forward to present time, ‘The Pig’ is reinvented as a casual dining and urban bar oasis. Occupying the iconic heritage-listed old bank building in the heart of town, The Pig bustles with life, character and atmosphere which solidifies the venue as unparalleled for dining, drinking and entertainment among locals and travellers.

This slick eatery does a kind of Asian-forward tapas style menu and pizzas, which also look excellent. On Sundays, they have $12 spritzes and their Manly Spritz (Manly Distillery gin, triple sec, rose water and Prosecco) is excellent. We ordered some tapas dishes – pâté first, which was almost fluffy it was so light, then Szechuan squid, some steamed bao (both karaagi chicken and pork belly) and steamed pork dumplings.

On Tamworth’s iconic Peel Street, The Pig & Tinder Box is a heritage-listed old bank that set up shop way back in 1848 as one of the first pubs in the New England Region. The food is phenomenal and ups the ante of the pub feeds around town.
