Reviews Summary
Balkan Grill Walter is celebrated for its iconic Bosna sausage, a unique and flavorful street food experience that many find to be a delicious and affordable must-try in Salzburg. While some reviews praise the taste and value, a few suggest it might be overhyped, with occasional comments on dryness or portion size.
"Popular “Bosna” hotdog among both local and tourists.🌭 We come just after opening time and there is a small queue already. All hotdogs are freshly made right after taking order so do expect a small wait.😉
Very hot upon receive.🔥 The bread itself is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
I must give a big kudos to the mustard paste. It matches so perfectly with the hotdog and takes it up a notch.💯 The sausages are yummy and juicy also. Definitely a hidden gem in Salzburg!😋 Please do give a try when there is short queue only.🤭"

"It’s more a hype than something extraordinary. Don’t waste your time in a long queue. The Bosna is made fresh but there is not enough sauce in it. The sausage is too peppery and the canned refreshment was just was on room temperature. In this category, I would say it is better to eat a kasekrainer in any würstelstands. The servers were kind and fast. Card is payment is accepted."

"We ordered menu items No. 1, 2, and 3. To be honest, they all tasted quite similar—good, but nothing particularly memorable. The one standout element was the use of curry powder, which gave the dishes a slightly unique twist.
Overall, the food was average and the portions were relatively small. In my opinion, the place is a bit overrated given the hype. It’s fine for a quick bite, but not something I’d go out of my way for."

Known simply as "The Bosna Grill," this tiny sausage stand has become a cult destination for locals and international travelers. This Bulgarian-inspired, Salzburg-born specialty comprises two thin, grilled bratwurst sausages in a toasted white bread bun, topped with chopped onions, fresh parsley, and a curry-based seasoning mixture that's been a secret since the owner, Zanko Todoroff, created it more than 50 years ago. To find the hole-in-the-wall eatery, look for the long line of hungry people in the tiny passageway that runs from the Dantendorfer shop on Getreidegasse to the Universitätsplatz.

At this take-away sausage shop in the old town, it’s a simple yet perfect affair. Visitors walk up to the window, order a hot dog, and walk away happy. Prices are very reasonable for a superior hot dog sausage in Salzburg, and it’s a memorable experience, but it’s popular so expect to queue.

Just around the corner, near the Hotel Goldener Hirsch, is another of Salzburg's gastronomic institutions. The Balkan Grill is in a covered alleyway between smart shops selling unstructured Italian wool blazers, Swiss chronometers with faces the size of a toddler's, necklaces of Baltic amber and elaborate lingerie. A queue that is a perfect cross-section of Salzburg society, from haut-bourgeois pensioners in velvet-trimmed boiled wool to workmen in paint- splattered overalls, forms outside the little hatch in the wall.
