Reviews Summary

Café Bazar is celebrated for its charming historic ambiance and prime riverside terrace location, offering stunning views. Many praise the delicious coffee and traditional Austrian pastries, particularly the apple strudel. However, some reviewers have noted issues with service, describing staff as rude or disorganized, and found prices to be on the higher side.

"Absolutely gorgeous cafe. On a warm and sunny late morning, I sat here and watched passerby’s walk along the river while enjoying a wonderful cappuccino and omelette. The ingredients are very fresh, the service is very kind, and the atmosphere is classy and pleasant."

Isabelle Papenfuss

"It is a cafe with prices a little bit on the higher side. However, once you enter the cafe it feels like you are in the old style Viennese coffee houses.
The waiters are busy but they are very nice and polite.
Service is fast. Coffee is good. The desserts are great. We had a chocolate mousse which was very nice. For me the highlight was apfelstrudel with vanilla sauce. It was the best I have had in a long time in Austria. It was very fresh, and flaky and the vanilla sauce was mild, light and complicated the strudel very well."

vitesh shah

"super classical vibe, amazing service that's very friendly and understanding to the point of having an english menu too.
food was great and coffee was even better.
definitely worth a stop just to take it in"

Sip a melange (frothy milk coffee) under the shade of the leafy trees at this people-watching coffeehouse institution on the Salzach River. Salads, soups, and toasted ham-and-cheese sandwiches served with ketchup satisfy savory cravings, while homemade topfen- and apfelstrudel beckon from the glass case of house-made tortes. Marlene Dietrich, Max Reinhardt, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Arturo Toscanini, and Seiji Ozawa are just a few of the famous faces to grace the terrace, and today well-known locals settle into dark-wood chairs at the small marble tables.

The Ultimate 2 to 3 Days in Salzburg Itinerary

Begin your day at a classic Austrian cafe along the River Salzach — the Cafe Bazar. Though cafe culture may be more associated with a city like Vienna rather than Salzburg, the tradition is actually quite pervasive throughout Austria and it’s something you can experience in cities throughout the country whether you find yourself in Linz or Graz or Salzburg or Vienna. But if you want to get a true Austro-Hungarian cafe experience in Salzburg, Cafe Bazar is really a great place to do it.

The terrace offers a delightful view of the river, with the Mönchsberg and Hohensalzburg Fortress in the background, as well as a wide variety of Austrian coffee-house specialities. Connoisseurs traditionally have two eggs in a glass with a Salzstangerl [oblong bread roll with salt] accompanied by their coffee of choice for breakfast.
