Reviews Summary
Diners rave about JOHANNESKELLER's delicious traditional Austrian food and cozy, rustic atmosphere. The friendly and quirky service adds to the charm, although securing a table without a reservation can be challenging. Some note the unique cash-only policy and the potent horseradish garnish.
"You should definitely drop in if you’re in beautiful Salzburg. We all ordered the braised beef special and the chef served it up family style. It was delicious!! And Manuel, our server, was really good to us. He made us feel right at home. Oh, and the white garnishment that may come with your food…is NOT shredded cheese! 😆😂🥵🤣"

"My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here. He ordered the beef bourguignon (which was a special that day) and I ordered the roast pork. Both were delicious. Word of warning to future patrons, the grated white, fluffy stuff on your plate is very potent horseradish.
The restaurant is primarily located in the basement of the building, down a narrow flight of stairs, there is no elevator. There are 2 rooms in the basement: one next to the open kitchen and the other where we got seated which contains the bar as well as rustic brick archways. There are some tables on the much smaller ground floor. There were also tables outside but these weren't set up due to the rainy weather.
Because there is no way to make an online reservation, we emailed the owner of the place we would be staying at to ask her if she could make reservations for us. Thankfully, she did, the place was pretty much full when we arrived at 7 pm on a Wed night."

"The most pleasantly surprising restaurant of the trip!
We ordered roast pork with gravy, a mixed salad, and sausage pasta—every dish was so delicious we wanted to lick the plates! The service was also fantastic: friendly and efficient staff - quirky would be a good way of describing it. Note: the restaurant is underground, and there’s almost no signal 🤣 — so navigate ahead of time.
📌 Summary: A local favorite and true hidden gem—don’t miss it!"

The 12 best restaurants in Salzburg
Through stained glass doors and snuggled deep in the atmospheric red-brick vaults of the historic Priesterhaus (Priest’s House), this relaxed tavern keeps things nice and traditional. Banquette and cheek-by-jowl bistro tables set the scene for Peter Lammer’s repertoire of Austrian classics. Peter is no ordinary chef: following a serious motorbike accident in 2010, he returned to cooking thanks to a hanging chair that allows him to float around the kitchen.
