Sternbräu

Neighbouring Sternbräu, the famous brewery in the heart of the Old Town, this classy wine bar is one of Salzburg’s more refined venues for an evening tipple. As well as a great range of drinks, Sternlounge also has a delicious menu featuring many Austrian specialties. Be sure to sample some Austrian wine – of which there are many varieties.

On February 20, 1771 Leopold wrote to his wife from Venice: "... Home! I just remembered that we cannot live at home. Please write me to advise whether we shall take lodgings at the Sailerwirt (former inn, Getreidegasse 10), the Stern (today´s Sternbräu, Getreidegasse 34-36) or at the Saulentzl (former inn with butcher´s shop, Goldgasse 13). It shall probably be best for me to stay at the Löchl (the Löchlwirt, today´s Restaurant Eulenspiegel, Hagenauerplatz 2), where I shall be near the Hagenauer House (Leopold only had to cross the square). The way we have been sleeping with each other (like soldiers) cannot continue; Wolfgang is no longer 7 years old, etc.".

Nach einer längeren Umbauphase wird die lange Tradition des Sternbräus in der Griesgasse seit Oktober 2014 in modernem Ambiente fortgeführt. Mit dem neuen Sternbräu-Areal entstand ein urbaner Knotenpunkt mit einer Vielzahl an gastronomischen Angeboten für alle Zielgruppen. Mit rund 650 Sitzplätzen innen und 670 Gartenplätzen ist das Sternbräu mit seinen „Restaurantkindern“ - der SternLounge, der Sternzeit und der Trattoria La Stella - heute einer der größten und bekanntesten Gastronomiebetriebe Österreichs.

Crossing the Salzach River to the west bank Altstadt the logical next stop for me was the Sternbräu. The first recorded mention of the brewery dates to 1542 and beer was brewed into the 1950’s. The Sternbräu is now an interesting amalgamation of pubs, restaurants and beer garden – there are more than 700 indoor seats and 600 outdoor seats in the complex.

Ideally located in the centre of the old town, this place has a whole bunch of differently themed restaurants in the same building. From a traditional beer hall to a royal room to a stylish lounge, you can pick whatever suits your fancy. We picked the traditional beer hall of course and absolutely loved the cozy atmosphere.

Sternbräu– Sternbräu is one of the main breweries in Salzburg, and it has a huge beer garden in the city center!. This is a great place for an overview of traditional Austrian cuisine because it offers many of the dishes listed above!. I had the roast pork with a dumpling there and I thought the pork was juicy and tender!.

If you only have a short amount of time, put this place right at the top of your list. It’s right in the middle of Old Town, so it’s not exactly a secret, but the food is so worth it. In winter, you can cozy up inside, and in summer, the outdoor beer garden is buzzing with tourists and locals all enjoying giant steins.

Sternbräu ist mit Abstand mein liebstes glutenfreies Restaurant in Salzburg. Ich gehe dort essen, wann immer ich nach Hause komme, um meine Familie zu besuchen. Sie haben ein spezielles glutenfreies Menü mit lokalen österreichischen Gerichten und bisher hatte ich noch nie Probleme damit zu essen.

The “Sternbrau” sits smack in the heart of Salzburg’s Old City, near to the world-famous Getreidegasse and Mozart’s birthplace. Since 1542, the “Sternbrau” has gradually grown to become Salzburg’s largest and most popular traditional beer inn.

The Sternbräu is located directly on the most popular shopping street, Getreidegasse. It's the ideal place to refuel during or after a stroll through the city. Delicious, typically Austrian dishes are served in various rooms and dining areas.

For a traditional Austrian meal, head to Sternbräu, which is hidden behind a courtyard for a traditional meal. They have casual tables to sit out at. I recommend ordering a white sausage (shown above) or wiener schnitzel with a pretzel.

The original Stern-Bräu was founded in 1542 when there would have been dozens of similar brewpubs in the Old Town of Salzburg. It moved operations to a nearby suburb in 1907. That was until 1956 when brewing ceased altogether.

A casual brewery pub in the old town of Salzburg with three different beer gardens. The house beer is Sternbier, naturally cloudy and revitalised after a 65-year break. The new, old beer can be drunk neat or as an aperitif.

Coeliac friendly with a gluten free menu (although significantly reduced from main menu - there are still excellent options). Gluten free roast pork with potatoes, gravy and cabbage and bacon salad was to die for!

How about traditional and time-honoured delicacies or the house speciality, Sternbräu Bratwurst or Salzburger Nockerln?. All this and much more awaits you in the four trendy locations at the Sternbräu.

This is a popular Salzburg restaurant with multiple levels, so naturally, I followed the crowds and went here for lunch. It was expensive, but the schnitzel was massive and best enjoyed with a Radler.

An interactive playroom at the Sternbräu means children have fun and parents can relax. The playroom is fitted with play and painting stations, slider puzzles, a labyrinth table and table football.

For dinner, experience the historic charm of Sternbräu Salzburg, a brewery and restaurant dating back to the 16th century. After dinner, take a moonlit stroll back to your accommodation.

A great example is Sternbräu restaurant in the old town, which boasts 14 different restaurant rooms. Each room features a different decor but all serve traditional Austrian dishes.
