What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Café Central is celebrated for its stunning historic ambiance and delicious traditional Viennese pastries, particularly its cakes and strudels. While many praise the elegant setting, piano music, and attentive service, some visitors note long wait times during peak hours and occasional inconsistencies with specific dishes, though the overall experience is highly regarded as a must-visit in Vienna.
"Beautiful architectural interior with a beautiful selection of cakes all fitting for the location.
We booked online so when we arrived we were able to walk past the very long queue outside and go straight inside and we were seated immediately.
The place is every bit as beautiful as all the photos and there was someone playing the piano which added to the elegant ambience.
Tea was beautifully served and the cakes were some of the best we’d had during our week in Austria. There’s a vast selection on offer so it’s tough to choose something! And the ones we tried tasted as good as they looked.
The cakes and the beverages were all very reasonably priced too. They also have a full food menu too which is also very reasonably priced.
Although this is known as a touristy place, I would definitely come back and try a meal here. Maybe in the evening so we can enjoy the evening ambience. All in all a lovely experience."

"Now I Know What the Fuss Is All About – I had read so much about Café Central before my trip to Vienna - rave reviews everywhere, calling it a must-visit. And after finally experiencing it, I completely understand the hype. The café is a beautiful slice of tradition. The interior is stunning - elegant and classic. There is an impressive selection of cakes and pastries, and choosing just a couple was no easy task! We went with the warm chocolate cake (served with vanilla ice cream and fresh cream) and a vanilla puff pastry. The chocolate cake was absolutely the highlight - rich, indulgent, and melt-in-your-mouth good. We also ordered coffee- cappuccino was great, though the latte was just okay. Not bad, but nothing special.
The service was pleasant and efficient despite the crowd. And yes, be prepared to wait in a queue, especially during peak times."

"We had to try out this iconic restaurant. The apple strudel was a little bit of a let down, but everything else we tried was good. What you are getting most by coming here is the atmosphere. You can feast with your eyes because the decor and architecture is stunning. It does feel like stepping back in time. The service is exceptional for those in wheelchairs. Just go to the front and they will guide you through a back entrance that has a ramp. We were able to skip the incredibly long line because of this. And the see areas others don’t get to see was a treat."
