What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about Griechenbeisl's rich history and authentic Austrian cuisine, with the pork knuckle and Wiener Schnitzel frequently highlighted as must-tries. The service is consistently praised for being outstanding and attentive, contributing to a memorable dining experience. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some minor critiques might revolve around the historical ambiance being a bit dated for some preferences, though this is often outweighed by the charm and quality of the food and service.
"Great little historical restaurant - came here because of the reviews of their famous pork knuckle and it did not disappoint! We came hungry so we decided to get some starters, which was not a wise move… The pork knuckle is huge and I would even say you could share with 3 people. The skin was cooked to perfection and truly crackling with amazing flavor. Comes with 2 types of sauerkraut but we also ordered a portion of fries which was delicious.
For the starters, we tried the consommé soup and the duo of foie gras and beef tartar. Both were stunning - in particular the presentation and flavor of the foie gras and beef tartar. Highly recommend.
We also saw every table order the schnitzel and it did look amazing (wish I had ordered that too).
Service - absolutely outstanding. Friendly waiters who are attentive and prompt.
Put this place on your list in Vienna - make sure you reserve on a weekend."

"We came across this restaurant and decided to stop due to the location. Best decision ever. The service was amazing, and the food was divine. When the waiter said, "See you tomorrow," we thought, why not. There was another dish we saw coming out we really wanted to try. It did not disappoint. In fact, it turned out to be one of the very best meals we have had on our European trip so far. The crispy pork for 2 was amazing. And the accompanying dishing compliment it perfectly. 10 out of 10. And the staff were fantastic. Hope we get one more chance to dine there before moving on."

"A stroll through Vienna brought us upon this lovely location. We walked in hungry and in thirst. What we were not expecting was a culinary and immersive delight! From first encounter, it was a charming and warm spot, but what came next was completely unexpected. A pig leg meal for two fell upon our interest and it enlightened our entire being. Along with a glass of grüner vetliner, the culinary experience took us to another realm. The flavor profile was beyond anything we expected and immediately wrote home to tell anyone and everyone of our time. If I could give 6 stars, I would. This was a completely unexpected, unplanned experience and I would implore every visitor of Vienna to come try. I would be remiss to not mention the service provided by Peter. He answered our questions, provided us additional insight, and lead us in the right direction. Do not miss a visit to this spot! My husband still is going on and on about his “food high”…. Bless this place!"
