While plenty of pralines, truffles, handmade biscuits and other gingerbreads are available in the shop, The Old Chocolate House originally started as a hot chocolate-only place. The dedication of the local owner Françoise Thomaes has made The Old Chocolate House a reference in Bruges, where people from all over the world come to taste the chocolates and enjoy hot chocolate in the tea room.

The Chocolate House looks the most like an old Belgian chocolate house, dating back to the 17th or 18th century. They run a hot chocolate operation out of the attic, while the ground floor is dedicated to a long line of bonbons. That praline display is across from a large number of molded chocolates, honeys, chocolate-covered sweets, and candied confections.

In addition to an extensive selection of chocolate and biscuits, this family-run business serves comforting mugs of silky hot chocolate in its cosy upstairs tea room. Whisk your choice of chocolate pellets into an oversized mug of steaming milk and watch as they melt into the hot liquid.

This ends up leaving you full of chocolate by the time you’re done going to all of the stores!. Also, I was very pleasantly surprised at the prices of the chocolates.

The Old Chocolate House, just off the Markt, houses a chocolate shop on the first floor and a tea room upstairs. It was a very popular spot for a Saturday afternoon, and there were lines downstairs for the tea room. They offer hot chocolate with almond milk and coconut milk, and I ordered the coconut milk and dark chocolate.

Bruges is chocolate heaven, and eating or drinking chocolate while visiting Bruges at Christmas time is an ultimate must-do!. The city has over 50 chocolate shops, and you can even take a chocolate tour!. For the ultimate experience, visit The Old Chocolate House, located a few minutes walk from the main square.

And the last place in the ranking, because the best is always left for last, is the sweet end of the day. There will not be a day in Belgium in which you do not fall into the temptation of snacking in one of its chocolate shops. No trip to Belgium is complete without indulging in local sweets. Stepping into the Old Chocolate House unveils a haven dedicated to all things chocolate. Just a block away from Markt Square on Mariastraat, the Chocolate House has been family-owned and operated since 1997.

I visited The Old Chocolate House on both my visits to Bruges. At the bottom is a chocolate shop, but head upstairs to their cosy tearoom. They’re well-known for their extensive list of hot chocolates that are served in the biggest mugs/bowls you’ve ever seen.

This family-run business has made premium chocolate for 20 years. They offer an extensive assortment of chocolate along with handmade biscuits, gingerbread, marzipan, and a selection of pralines. On the ground floor, you can peruse their delicious products.

It’s a family-owned chocolate shop, and they have a very tiny tea room upstairs. Only, their specialty is not tea, it’s hot chocolate!. They serve a variety of sweets, like gingerbread with chocolate frosting, but you won’t find any tea sandwiches here.

Not only is the Old Chocolate House a chocolate shop, it is also a tea room where you can taste the sweets directly. Their hot chocolate is simply delicious. Plus, you get to choose the type of chocolate from which you want yours to be made.

If you’re up for some dessert before dinner then not very far away from Otomat is the Old Chocolate House which is a charming cafe that serves some indulgent Belgian Hot Chocolate. However, the place shuts by 6 PM so is best visited earlier.

The Old Chocolate House is a cozy teahouse and chocolaterie where you enjoy giant mugs of incredible hot chocolate and some delicious waffles. The place is also very cozy and there is a shop downstairs where you can buy delicious treats.

Later that day we headed to an adorable little tea room claiming itself as “The place to be to drink the best hot chocolate”. We couldn’t let a claim like that go untested. Fortunately, The Old Chocolate House did not disappoint.

Before we left on our trip, I discovered The Old Chocolate House online. Half chocolatier and half tearoom, the Old Chocolate House is the perfect spot to stop and indulge in Belgium’s finest things (chocolate and waffles, ofc!).

Best Belgian Food Found at the Christmas Markets: Waffles, waffles and more waffles!. But seriously, I have yet to find any waffle that tops the waffles found in Bruges. Another treat you don’t want to miss is the chocolate.

It’s a bit of a cliché, but if you want to go all out when you visit Bruges, I highly recommend checking out The Old Chocolate House for tasty waffles and giant hot chocolates in the cutest granny house setting.

Probably the most famous place to have a hot chocolate in Bruges!. Sometimes you can see the queue from outside. The tea room is upstairs but on your way you can buy some chocolates downstairs.

Our absolute favourites were the Hot Chocolate at Jean De Bruges and The Old Chocolate House. As for chocolate spreads and chocolate liqueur, Mathilda’s in the Markt is simply awesome.

For chocolate to eat later or take home with you, Dumon is where you want to go. They have quality chocolate at a reasonable price. You pick what you want and pay by the weight.

Over-indulging in Belgian chocolate whilst in Bruges is practically a law. Or at least it should be!. And The Old Chocolate House is one of the best places to do just that.
