A few diners have also noted limitations for vegetarian options.

"Great lunch at pakhuis. The restaurant is beautiful especially when the sun is shining through the great glass roof. Mains were decent. Would make it a regular spot for Sunday lunch if I lived in gent. Highly recommended"

"Stumbled upon this restaurant while we were shopping in the area. Such a great find. Delicious food, although the wait time between the starter and the mains was a little long. Absolutely beautiful interior. Highly recommend coming by. We came for lunch on a Monday and didn’t need a reservation."

Restaurants in Ghent

At peak times, this enormously popular brasserie in an old warehouse off the Korenmarkt crackles with energy. A giant Greek statue makes an incongruous counterpoint to the marble-top tables, parquet floors, and long oak bar, but there's no denying its craft. Locals rave about the seafood and the oyster bar, or you can choose the "market menu," based on what the chef picked up fresh that morning.

Vegetarian friendly food spots in Ghent, Belgium

I have to admit that it’s not super vegetarian friendly, but I love the interior of Brasserie Pakhuis so much that I’ve added it to my list of favorite food spots in Ghent anyway. Brasserie Restaurant Pakhuis is located in a former factory that afterwards was used as a warehouse (hence the name). Their menu mainly focusses on meat and fish, but they always have a few vegetarian dishes as well.

If you want to pay a little bit more "het Pakhuis" is always a good option or "De Oude Vismijn". Other good places are Amadeus (all-you-can-eat ribs for only € 15), Ankara (very good and cheap Turkish cuisine), Potatolicious (take-away and eat-in potato restaurant), Kastart (pasta restaurant known for its famous Kastartsauce), Jilles (epic burgers and beer).

My favourite restaurant by far was in Ghent – the Michelin-listed restaurant t’Pakhuis. They take the concept of farm right to table so seriously that they bought the farm – in Bresse, France. So now they breed and serve famous and flavourful Bresse chickens, guinea fowl, Hampshire down lambs and Bayeux pigs.
