The beachfront restaurant serves up colorful dishes like Thai-inspired black bean-encrusted fish, plus less flashy options like a club sandwich, so there's something for everyone. Nothing about Blue Water is cheap, but it works to please, with its wood-fired pizzas, top-notch service, and breezy beachfront setting.

So far, in San Pedro Town, the Fish Right, Eat Right Program has certified Wild Mango’s Restaurant, Elvis Kitchen and Blue Water Grill for their commitment to promoting sustainable fishing. Amy Knox, the owner of Wild Mango’s Restaurant, says she was contacted by the WCS about a year ago, telling her about the program and asking if she would sign up, as she has always focused on protecting and preserving the marine life. “In my restaurant, we don’t serve seasonal seafood like lobster, as we believe in preserving these species,” she said.

There are a lot of restaurants on the San Pedro waterfront and it was a difficult choice as to which one to pick for our final dinner in Central America. It was this sign with the quote from Nelson Mandela that made us opt for the Blue Water Grill and it turned out to be a solid pick. You would think we would be ‘fished out’ after our lunch today, but not so as Alison opted for the mahi mahi which contained two very generous fillets, some really good coleslaw and mashed potatoes.

Beachside and owned by a born-and-bred San Pedro woman and her husband from Houston, Blue Water Grill in San Pedro serves sustainably-sourced seafood and sushi, plus pizza, pasta, and salads for non-fish lovers. Open since 2001, owners Kelly and Mukul McDermott make monthly donations to social causes in Belize and provide educational scholarships for all of their staff’s children. They’ve contributed more than $100,000 to the Liberty Children’s Home since 2009.

This restaurant has a very extensive menu–and that’s not even getting into the additional sushi menu available upon request—which is a delight to anyone who loves to have more than one option available. Best of all, the restaurant it has great views of the beach and the ocean, so you’ll be able to enjoy the relaxing sight of the sea while you eat your hamburger.

The other great parts of town to visit are south of there, where you’ll find Estelle’s, Nook, Blue Water Grill, and then farther south, an entirely different neighborhood with the fun of Crazy Canuck’s, Road Kill, AJ’s and more….this is why Belize gets many repeat guests, as each area has its own vibe and I am barely scratching the surface of all the places to go, eat, see, and do.

Maybe it’s the fact that they have a giant light-up sign that says “I ♥ Belize” that makes me love this restaurant but it is the incredible and innovative dishes that truly makes Blue Water Grill a winner in my book. With our large group, we were able to sample several dishes. The yellowfin tuna is sensational and I strongly suggest ordering whatever special they have that day.

This is another relaxed restaurant that’s a local favorite just a couple of yards south of Wild Mango’s. Blue Water Grill is attached to Sunbreeze Hotel and although it is under new management, they continue supporting Fish Right, Eat Right. They joined the program in 2019, and long before that they had been providing their guests a culinary experience of a lifetime.

Thursday nights in San Pedro, Blue Water Grill is the place to be. You may just run into the owners, Kelly or her husband Mukul. Their experience in the service industry, their happy long-term staff and their extensive menu keeps locals, visitors, and expats coming back for more.

Blue Water Grill has a beautiful oceanfront location and a relaxed atmosphere. The menu includes lobster, shrimp, and fish dishes, as well as sushi rolls and other Japanese-inspired dishes. The service is friendly and attentive and the vibe is upscale, for an island that is.

The restaurant is absolutely adorable and right on the beach. It has a cute sign too that says “I <3 Belize” — scroll down to see. The sushi was yum, but we did have to be flexible on what we ordered, since a lot of stuff was already out (avocados, etc).

If you want to enjoy lunch or dinner on the beach, Blue Water Grill offers a variety of choices. We had the fish tacos and mojitos and caught up on email using their free Wi-Fi. If you find yourself there in June, order some of the lobster dishes!

The decor and view are great and the band was wonderful the night we were there. The band literally played “our song” when our drinks were delivered. Getting the drinks, however, was an issue.

Blue Water Grill’s logo (upside down) has got to be 10…12 years old?. And Belize Legacy was renamed Xtan Ha Resort about a decade ago also.
