The outdoor ice coolers of fresh lobster, mussels, and fish might lure you into Caramba; once inside, you'll quickly sense the frenetic energy of this noisy and often packed joint. No sea views, and there's nothing fancy on the broad menu here—just basics like grilled snapper, fried shrimp, pork chops, and Mexican fajitas, all in American portions—but everything is well prepared, prices are moderate, and the service is snappy and enthusiastic. Belizean owner Rene Reyes worked his way up from fruit-seller to successful restaurateur.

The food at Caramba Restaurant is so fresh "they'll let you pick out the exact fish you want to eat for dinner," says Richard Evanich, managing director at Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club. A seafood-heavy menu with everything from octopus and snapper to lobster tails features Caribbean and Mexican-inspired dishes at what is one of San Pedro's most popular restaurants.

From the first time I set foot on the island of Ambergris Caye, Caramba became my favorite restaurant in San Pedro. And that’s not changed, even ten years later. Rene Reyes, Sr. and his wife Patty have done a remarkable job with the restaurant.

As you can see from the photos above, you go outside and choose your own fresh seafood. A friendly restaurant person will give you pricing before you select (so you’re not surprised at the end of the meal!) and will guide you on cooking suggestions if you like. The food is cooked to order (you picked the food and selected the cooking style, remember?) so the meal could take a while but you can’t beat the freshness!

Found on Pescador Drive in the heart of San Pedro, Caramba offers a refined and family-friendly ambience focusing on high-quality seafood dishes and creative cocktails. The menu features fresh catch-of-the-day options along with visually appealing presentations for appetisers and entrées. Open for lunch and dinner, they are famous for their “Catch of the day” display which showcases freshly caught seafood that can be chosen for your meal. My favourite dish here is their jerk fish, it’s hot and spicy…just the way I like it!

Diners personally select their fresh-caught seafood from ice coolers, with everything from shrimp, red snapper, and scallops to lobster and ceviche.

While this might not be your beachfront dining experience, the food is worth getting off the sand and heading to the main drag in town. Often packed and filled with a lively ambiance, the food here is rather basic but incredibly tasty. Not to mention they have the best conch fritters on the island.

For variety, Caramba offers a buffet of Mexican and Belizean dishes that will satisfy any craving. With fresh ingredients and bold flavors, it’s a popular spot for both locals and visitors. Whether you’re in the mood for seafood or a local delicacy, Caramba won’t disappoint.

Caramba was the first meal we had while in Belize, and it was hands down one of the best. Our hotel recommended this restaurant to us, and it did not disappoint. Full of Belizean dishes and fresh seafood, I knew it was going to be up Mitch’s and mine alley.

They say the food speaks for itself at Caramba and that’s the truth!. Pick your own seafood outside or bring your own and sip on a Strawberry Beerita or fresh fruit smoothie in a tropical environment. Excellent food, welcoming service, fun vibe!
