Coffee Culture

Patrons at the Coffee Culture are welcomed with the aroma of fresh brewed coffee and warm ambience as soon as one walks into the Café. Enjoying a central location in town, the first floor has a warm décor with wooden sitting similar to an American traditional diner while the upstairs floor doubles up as an interior balcony with comfortable couches and sofas, additionally they also have outdoors space too. Their big chalk board menu has a variety of options in coffee, pastries, finger foods, quick bites including lunch and dinner sets which are all excellently prepared with equally delicious taste.

A true Thimphu institution, ‘Coffee Culture’ has been serving up delicious food and drinks for over a decade while continuously updating its menu to keep things fresh. This café is a fantastic lunch or evening tea spot, perfect for catching up with friends over a comforting meal. Their spicy ema datsi momos (chili and cheese dumplings) add a fiery twist to a local favorite, while their sesame chicken and Vietnamese shrimp rolls are among the café’s most popular dishes.

Situated in the bustling Changlam Square, Coffee Culture is a vibrant cafe in Thimphu that draws crowds with its outdoor seating and eclectic menu. Known for its tiramisu, cheesecake, and unique “ema datshi momos” (dumplings stuffed with chili and cheese), this café blends Bhutanese flavors with international flair. The coffee menu features classic espresso-based drinks and alternative brews, making it a favorite for caffeine enthusiasts.

Located in the Chang Lam square, this café is hugely divided into two floors. While the ground floor has a wooden seating area like a traditional American diner, the upstairs has comfy couches and the upstairs has been designed to look like a balcony that overlooks the downstairs. There is also outdoor seating for people who enjoy some breeze in their hair.

We decided to go to Coffee Culture, a quaint café at the heart of Thimphu city; another one from our must visit list. I went for a Caramel Macchiato and Shabbir opted for an Irish Coffee. We were also craving some desserts as they are not common in Bhutan and you don’t get it at all restaurants.

Only Ambient (which roasts their own beans), Central, Coffee Culture and Karma's have professional espresso machines; other places either sell only filter coffee or use an automatic coffee machine. Outside of these cafes, coffee in Bhutan is mostly the instant variety, particularly Nescafe.

Nestled between Thimphu stadium and the vegetable market, Coffee Culture is a convenient place to take a break, have a coffee or snack, and catch your breath. Coffee Culture welcomes you with its warm ambience and aroma of coffee. The cafe is divided into two floors.

If you like coffee and a delicious dessert, you are just at the right place in Coffee Culture in Thimphu. They also serve nice meals including fresh green salad. The cosy coffee shop is a good place to be for lunch, coffee time, or a casual dinner.
