Elia Greek Kitchen Bassac Lane

Established in Siem Reap, Elia quickly proved so popular with visiting expats from Phnom Penh that they opened up a branch in the capital. Regardless of which city you end up in, the reason for its popularity becomes quickly apparent: large portions of authentic Greek food perfect for sharing, served in a relaxed open-air setting at great prices. We like to start off the evening with a variety of dips and homemade pita, before moving on to a mixed meze plate full of dolmades, feta and zucchini fritters, then filling up the table with a seafood platter of calamari, grilled mackerel, butter shrimps and the best fries you'll ever find in Cambodia.

Even if you weren’t planning to eat, you’ll likely be tempted by the array of food around the neighborhood, including pizzas at the perennially popular Piccolo Italia da Luigi; Greek dishes at a great new branch of Elia; Chinese dumplings and noodles at Mama Wong’s; a taste of France at Little Wine Bistro; French tacos at Electric Kitchen; the (prominently located!) Khmer Secret BBQ; and an Indian restaurant, Namaste. For remarkably good value Khmer and western food and drinks in a leafy, garden setting, stroll down Street 308 beyond Street 9 to 63 Street Bassac Restaurant, still rather confusingly named after its original location.

A recent addition to the Bassac Lane restaurant scene, with its quaint open air courtyard setting, Elia Greek Kitchen provides a calm oasis with an intimate setting to share food and friendly conversation. This is their recently opened second restaurant, with their flagship restaurant located in Toul Tompoung, Russian Market. With a great selection on their menu, Elia is the perfect place for groups of varied dietary preferences – including vegans with a sweet tooth.

Elia Greek Kitchen is one business that relocated from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh during the pandemic and now boasts two bustling eateries in the capital. Kantanashi on Langka Lane is a cute spot that serves delicious Japanese tapas. The Vine has the best burgers in town, Topaz has been serving fine French cuisine for more than 20 years and Mama Thai boasts the tastiest authentic Thai food.

As you’ll know from our Ultimate Siem Reap Travel Guide, we visited the same restaurant in Siem Reap so we had to visit it here. Although we ended up being boring and getting the same thing we got last time; the Souvlaki and Gyros. The only difference this time was that we brought our friends along because we raved about it so much.
