Order the crispy sticky rice crackers with natang sauce, made with minced pork, shrimp, coconut milk, and peanuts, served with fried tempura-like frangipanis and vegetables; the char kroeung of frog’s legs (or pork, chicken or beef if you’re not a fan of the frog), stir-fried with a kroeung paste of lemongrass, turmeric, galangal, lime, garlic, and spring onion; and the free-range Khmer chicken, roasted with honey, rice brandy, young jack fruit and lemongrass, and served with a prahok dip and fresh vegetable crudites. The prahok k’tis at Chanrey Tree is also superb.

This elegant restaurant is located amongst loads of greenery in a refreshingly air-conditioned room. In addition to loads of local Khmer cuisine, Chanrey Tree also has two whole pages of meat-free items for vegans and vegetarians to choose from, including appetizers, salads, curries, and stir-fry. We highly recommend the Pomelo and Spinach Salad ($6.50), a delightfully healthy salad made with pomelo, long beans, abalone mushrooms, lotus roots, peanuts, mint, lemon basil, toasted coconut, and more tossed with spinach in Khmer dressing and the Garlic Mushrooms with Black Pepper ($7.50), a delicious combination of straw and abalone mushrooms made with soy sauce, garlic, black pepper, and spring onions.

In a lush courtyard setting, you’ll find Chanrey Tree, a traditional wooden house with a spacious al fresco dining area, serving authentic home-style cooking. The relaxed setting is the ideal place to savour dishes made from ingredients bought at local markets and presented in new and creative ways. Diners can choose from a varied menu, including beef lok lak, roasted Khmer chicken, and Tonle Sap steamed fish.

Chanrey Tree provides a superb Khmer dining experience in a tranquil riverfront environment. The area combines traditional design with modern elegance, with carved wood, white walls, and lush vegetation. The cuisine features unique twists on Khmer classics such as Mikola noodles, sautéed frog legs, and fragrant curries, as well as desserts like mango mousse and tapioca pudding.

Chanrey Tree Restaurant, a lovely spot for both lunch and dinner, is located in the heart of Siem Reap’s riverside district.

Chanrey Tree was the most expensive restaurant that we visited in Siem Reap, relatively speaking. But then again, for a similar fine dining restaurant anywhere else in the world, we felt that Chanrey Tree was a bargain. The service, and presentation of the food was absolutely spectacular (which we had now come to expect).

Chanrey Tree is a must-visit restaurant in Siem Reap for those looking to try authentic Khmer cuisine. The restaurant is located in a beautiful outdoor garden setting with a relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, including traditional Khmer favorites such as fish amok and beef lok lak.

Located right next to Malis is Chanrey Tree an outdoor venue popular with upmarket overseas visitors. The atmosphere is warm and tropical as opposed to Malis's cool air conditioned comfort. The frogs legs Char Kroeung are excellent as is the peanut Natale served with a whole fried frangipanes.

During my short trip to Siem Reap earlier this November, I had the privilege of trying some delicious dishes at Chanrey Tree. The restaurant has a certain traditional charm, with gorgeous portrait paintings, wooden furniture and beautiful folded lotus flowers situated around the bungalow.

Cool and contemporary, Chantrey Tree is the new face of Khmer cuisine, combining a stylish setting with expressive presentation, while retaining the essentials of traditional Cambodian cooking. Try the eggplant with pork ribs or grilled stuffed frog.

Chanrey Tree has been around for a couple of years now and probably offers the best balance between fancy and good in town. They’re in a great location on the river and have terrific, friendly service.

The menu at Chanreytree is vast, so there's something for everyone, but their Beef Lok Lak is a standout choice.
