Less of a new spot and more of an exciting rebirth, James North’s Rapscallion & Co. revives what locals loved about the dearly departed tapas spot Raspcallion Rogue Eatery and cocktail bar Two Black Sheep. Taking over the former home of Ventura’s Restaurant, Rapscallion & Co. gives space to the playful kitchen creations of Chef Matt Kershaw in the form of chicken liver brulée, steak tartare, fresh oysters, decadent salads, lobster & shrimp mac ‘n cheese, duck schnitzel, and oh-so much more. Adding a weekly Beatles-themed brunch to the mix alongside thoughtful cocktails and a gorgeous restaurant space, Rapscallion & Co. is as good as it gets for elevated share plates and mischievous nose-to-tail cuisine.

Combining a few of Hamilton’s favourite retired eateries was the goal behind Rapscallion & Co., that along with an everchanging menu of fun, interesting dishes focused not only on local ingredients but also sustainability in a way that emphasises ‘nose-to-tail’ dining. Open daily, 5pm-late, be sure to take a walk on the wild side with ‘The Best Grilled Cheese’, which features triple cream brie and pickled pork shoulder, or a rich, smooth, and buttery chicken liver brulée.

Rapscallion & Co. calls itself “a mischievous and vibrant part of Hamilton’s restaurant scene, dedicated to offering the city’s culinary connoisseurs a full nose-to-tail experience.” The Beatles-themed brunch menu features Eggs McCartney (with avocado and pico de gallo), a Bacon Stack with pancakes, bacon, pork jowl, fried egg, brie cheese, veal jus, maple syrup and foie butter, stuffed brioche French toast, cinnamon roll pancakes, mimosas and more.

Why You Should Go: Chef Matt Kershaw has made quite the impression on Hamilton's food scene, and Rapscallion & Co. on James Street North exemplifies his culinary talents. Expect playful nose-to-tail cuisine served in a classy-yet-approachable setting with favourite dishes including chicken liver brûlée, roast bone marrow, confit duck leg, and buttermilk frog's legs.
