Reviews Summary

Pan Chancho Bakery & Café is celebrated for its creative and delicious brunch options, extensive selection of artisan baked goods, and charming European-style ambiance. While many praise the quality and unique flavors, some find the prices to be on the higher side, and occasionally service can be a bit slow during peak times.

"Excellent choice for brunch, something for everyone. As a non egg eater, my options are generally limited, but here I was limited to two dishes I would have been happy with.

I thoroughly enjoyed my smoked salmon on rye, my table mates enjoyed their weekenders, great coffee, efficient service. Worth it."

"Pan Chancho Bakery in downtown Kingston was an absolute delight! This stunning bakery provides you with the diverse selection of baked goods.

The standout for me was without a doubt the cranberry scone. It was absolutely stunning—hands down the best scone I’ve ever had in my entire life. Perfectly baked, with the right balance of tart cranberries and a buttery, tender crumb. It’s worth a visit for that alone."

"Got a table on the patio. Our server(Hannah) was wonderful, well informed and able tell us about the dishes. My wife and I had the Weekender breakfast, which included over easy eggs, bacon on a butter croissant. It was so delicious. I had a Chai Latte to drink it was made perfectly. We asked for the dessert and pastry menu - my wife ordered the coconut cream pie I had the angel food cake with vanella creme and fresh local strawberries. What a wonderful experience. Thank you to all the staff how made the experience great."

Great Eats in Kingston

Locals have long-known Pan Chancho as the go-to source for delicious baked goods (like croissants, scones and muffins to name a few), speciality breads (unique offerings like Apple Cider and Potato Cheddar Leak are always in high-demand) and gluten-free goodness (including baguettes and their incredible Raspberry Lemon Scones) – but where they perhaps shine the brightest is on their creative brunch menu. Pan Chancho’s take on your traditional bacon and egg breakfast is yet another testament to their creativity; the El Chancho ($16) can satisfy even the hungriest of patrons and is served with bacon, chorizo, shredded ham in red eye gravy, over easy eggs, roast corn salad, crispy potatoes (with three onions), and a grilled savoury brioche with bacon jam. The menu also features the likes of the Red Eye Poutine (patates frites, shredded smoked ham, poached egg, cheddar curds and red eye gravy for $12) and the Wild West (B.C. smoked wild salmon with fennel cream cheese on light rye, cucumbers, red onion and mixed greens with a caper lemon dressing; $12) – ensuring that you’ll be back to try something different.panchancho.com 44 Princess Street 613.544.7790

Best Quiet Patios in the Kingston Ontario Area 🍹☀️

It is amazing how much they pack into this beautiful limestone building, from truly artisan breads, one of the best craft cheese selections in Eastern Ontario, upscale fresh foods and frozen meals, inside dining and, the reason for this blog post, an outdoor patio. It’s worth working your way through the busy store to get to the back, where the building and fencing has carved out a lovely patio with umbrellas and trees for shade. From their website:– Charming European-style bakery, cafe & gourmet food shop with global wines & local beers on tap.– Retail store with gourmet food to go; Fully licensed full service café & patio; Artisan breads daily– The only restaurant in Kingston that is 🏳️‍🌈 Rainbow Registered – a certification that “helps people find 2SLGBTQI+ inclusive businesses across Canada for a more welcoming, accepting, and safe 2SLGBTQI+ customer and staff experience”– Strong ties to the Food Sharing Project through Community Foundation for Kingston & Area and host the Zal + Rose Breakfast Fundraiser in December each year

8 Best Cafes To Hit Up With Your BFF In Kingston

Good luck getting a seat at this cafe/foodie lovers paradise on the weekend, or any day of the week for that matter. This Kingston jewel isn't just known for their unbelievable treats but for their stunning brunch, amazing deli section, and 'I'm gonna act like I've known you for 20 years' type friendly staff (which is amazing). It seems like this could be the set up for an over hyped, commercialized coffee shop, but every time you walk into Pan Chancho you are overwhelmed with the simplicity that only a local cafe like this can bring.

Kingston, Ontario, is Canada's foodie capital.

The story of Pan Chancho, and it's sister restaurant Chez Piggy, is the stuff of Canadian food legend. Founded in 1979 by bona fide rock star, Zal Yanovsky of The Lovin' Spoonful, and his wife Rose Richardson, Chez Piggy led the wave of fine dining, innovative food, and even reviving heritage buildings in downtown Kingston. Pan Chancho was first established to supply Chez Piggy with European-quality bread and grew to become a full service bakery, gourmet take out counter, small cafe, and specialty food shop.

This locally owned, European-style cafe is checking off all the boxes for an amazing brunch; a charming aesthetic, food made from scratch, and a key location in the heart of downtown Kingston. We love the Weekender (two eggs over easy on a croissant with bacon, chives, and 2-year-old cheddar), the French toast, and the southwestern breakfast wrap (ranchero scrambled eggs, Monterey Jack, and refried black beans in a flour tortilla with roasted corn salad, sour cream, and chili machismo).

Summer Vibes and Patio Delights

Start your day off right at Pan Chancho Bakery & Café with a filling breakfast. My personal favourite is "The Weekender" consisting of two eggs over easy, bacon, chives and 2-year-old cheddar on a freshly made croissant, paired with a creamy chai latte. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, add a mimosa to your order for an extra splash of fun.

How to spend a weekend in Kingston, from on-the-go history lessons to the best baked goods in town.

Pan Chancho was opened by musician Zal Yanovsky (of the Lovin’ Spoonful fame) in the ’80s. Today, it’s kitted out with a $30,000 bread oven — all the better to supply nearby restaurants with sourdough daily — and is still family-run. You might have to line up for weekend brunch on the back patio, but if that’s not your style, grab a pastry to go.

What are some good places for eats in Kingston ? : KingstonOntario

Pan Chancho is excellent for nice weekend brunch (on Princess between King and Ontario), and lunch (I like it because their menu is interesting - they include ingredients you might not buy/make very often yourself. It's more like 15$ for a meal though, so not necessarily where to go for CHEAP brunch).
