😍 Join me as I look for the best matcha in Kingston, Ontario and visit local coffee shops along the way. 🍓 Today I got an iced matcha with oat milk and strawberry syrup from SENS Cafe on King St. I liked that it wasn't too sweet, but the taste of matcha was lacking. Plus, at this price point (almost $10) I would expect strawberry purée rather than a syrup. I give this matcha 2 out of 5 and am goin...

Reviews Summary

SENS CAFE is widely praised for its excellent coffee, friendly service, and cozy atmosphere, often described as a Parisian gem. While many rave about the pastries and unique latte creations, a few reviewers found some baked goods to be mediocre and expensive.

"This might be the best cafe in Kingston! The coffee is really good. They have a few pastry options. Friendly staff. It can get busy, so sometimes wait times can be long. Nice atmosphere inside. Ed to be a lot of university students working on their laptops."

"Lovely little cafe close to the water. Perfect to do some work on your laptop. I had an oat flat white, and an iced lavender matcha latte which was subtle and delicious, not too sweet which I prefer. I tried a sip of the iced strawberry matcha latte and although I found it sweet it was really nice. I did not try any of their baked goods but I’m eager to go back and try the almond cake!"

"Can't say enough good things about this cafe - went three times in a day and a half when visiting Kingston and would have gone again if scheduling permitted. Everything was perfect, from the atmosphere to the coffee to the friendly, knowledgeable staff to the location near a park and the water. My first sip of an Americano literally made me laugh because it was so amazingly flavorful compared to what we were used to at highly regarded coffee shops back home. The three different pour overs I had were all excellent, and the attention given from start (helping me select the beans based on my preferences) to finish was impressive. SENS clearly cares about the coffee they serve and the experience of the customers. It was obvious that there were regulars either settling in to enjoy the cozy, friendly atmosphere or getting their morning coffee and pastry (great croissants!) on the way to work. Huge thanks to Eric, Dara, and Violette for the great coffee, conversation, and welcoming experience. I love making coffee at home, but I'm sure I'd be in daily if I were local!"

Owned and operated by French expats, SENS is serving up the kinds of pastries that you’d find in Paris (if Paris had it so good…) This little cafe has eclairs with dark chocolate glaze and vanilla bean patissière cream, sandwiches of butter ciabatta, saucisson sec (thick, dry-cured sausage), and pickles, and fingerling potato salad with lemon Dijon dressing, radish, tarragon, and dill.

Where To Eat In Kingston With Kids

The next day we just had enough time after our hotel breakfast to visit the wonderful SENS Cafe at 136 Ontario Street before heading home. The space here is magical — warm and inviting with beautiful French pastries and the best flat white I’ve had since my time in Australia. We highly recommend this spot when you’re next in Kingston.
