After travelling the world and enjoying many amazing meals in countless places, the culinary forces behind Tango Nuevo concluded that the best meals are prepared with the freshest, local products – it’s a philosophy that has served them well, given that Tango Nuevo is on the ‘Must Try’ list of many foodies visiting Kingston. They serve an impressive array of cold and hot options (crowd favourites include their Turkish Bruschetta [served with diced vegetables, chili pepper, walnuts and finished with a traditional Turkish pomegranate syrup vinaigrette] and Asian Spare Ribs [tender pork ribs with a ginger, soy, honey and anise glaze]), ensuring that even the pickiest eaters will find something they love.

Once upon a time, Tango Nuevo was simply "Tango" - same location, similar name, but with a different owner and a different vibe. But Tango staff member Gokhan Cifci, who earned his culinary chops as a head chef on a luxury cruise liner, had an incredible vision for what the restaurant could be. Now as Tango Nuevo, it's moved from a place with something of a nightclub vibe to one of the city's most sophisticated restaurants, serving worldly, upscale tapas and small plates.

Tango Nuevo is loved by locals for their huge selection of tapas, charcuterie (all locally sourced), and international wine list. The hidden gem here is their fantastic cocktail list, which ranges from the classic martini (with premium gin and vodka options available) to delicious signature creations like the Campfire Manhattan (lapsang souchong-infused rye, sweet vermouth, bitters, maple syrup, cinnamon, and orange zest) and their Strawberry Balsamic Negroni Sour.

Effortlessly straddling the line between intimate and gregarious, Tango Nuevo is the perfect spot for a romantic date but does just as well hosting a large group of friends or even a solo traveler. They specialize in globally inspired small plates, and their dish of roasted Brussels sprouts with feta yogurt, almond, brown butter, and pomegranate jelly is a thing of beauty. Every meal I’ve had here has been exceptional.

This stylish restaurant belongs to the more expensive ones but is considered one of the best restaurants in Kingston. This Spanish restaurant serves exclusively tapas, so you should certainly order 2 or more dishes and you can share all dishes with each other to taste even more different things!. I recommend taking at least 3 different tapas because the portions are rather small, so you won’t be hungry afterwards!

As soon as you walk into the doors, you’re met with the coziest, warmest, most delightful buzz, before being greeted by a kind host/hostess who takes you to your table. With old films playing on one TV screen and a burning fireplace playing on another, this charming Spanish-tapas-meets-classic-Hollywood restaurant is perfect for a date night or dinner out with good friends and family. Large menu with a variety of dishes, typically each patron will get 2 or 3 dishes, designed to be shared, which makes for a fun evening and a chance to try more of the delicious menu!

With a large selection of delightful cocktails and on-tap brews, as well as a uniquely international atmosphere, you will be coming again to introduce all your friends and family to this stellar restaurant.

This patio offers a tapas-style menu that's perfect for sharing and good times. Don't miss out on their amazing hibiscus sangria, a refreshing and vibrant concoction that complements the lively atmosphere. Tango is also offering their cozy, streetside patio from Wednesday to Saturday. To give everyone a fair chance at their limited space, 90 minute seating is available by reservation only between 3 to 9 p.m. Enjoy a bite to eat from their modified tapas menu, paired with a wine or specially crafted cocktail.

For the exact same reasons but at a different price point, I'd also say "Tango Nuevo." Gokhan has near-zero staff turnover because of how well he treats his employees, and he also became a restaurant owner the hard way, without a handout from rich parents.

Wednesday is the day to sample, with The West Seventy 6 Grill offers 30% off any bottle of wine for groups of two or more who come in for entrees; and Tango features a special Chef’s tasting menu and half price bottles of wine.

The night was still young and it was Friday after all, so we walked a few blocks over to the trendy and dimly lit Spanish-style tapas bar Tango Nuevo for Chardonnay and Estrella Damm brews.
