Reviews Summary

Au Pied de Cochon is celebrated for its inventive and decadent Quebecois cuisine, particularly its legendary foie gras poutine and the lively atmosphere, often highlighted by the open kitchen view. While many praise the bold flavors and attentive service, some diners have experienced exceptionally slow service and found certain dishes to be overpriced or disappointing, leading to a mixed, but often memorable, dining experience.

"OH MY WORD!! My first night visiting Montreal and I was able to snag a spot at the bar. The bartender made me a nice off menu mocktail and I had some really good locally sourced sparkling water. I ordered the duck tartare and the foie gras poutine - which is a must move for first timers! The duck tartare was served sushi style with crispy potato bits and wrapped in seaweed. Best to eat with your hands. Delicious! The main delight for me was the foie gras poutine. It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. There are two different sauces that go so well together and the cheese curds are cut slightly longer on the bottom. The fries were perfectly crisp and the foie gras had a lovely char to it. Everything works so perfectly together and I was beyond joyed for my specific life choices that brought me to this heavenly dish. Thank you so much, Au Pied de Cochon!! I’m gonna see if I can make a reservation to come back this week ☺️"

"This was the best meal I had during my 7-day trip in Quebec. Every dish was prepared with sophistication, the flavors were spot on, and I was consistently impressed by the creativity and execution of the chef. Highly recommend Duck in the can and the other dish in the photo with a white sauce-the latter was the highlight of the night."

"Finally had the opportunity to dine here and was able to reserve twice in a week! Well worth the trip to Montreal! Everything I had was amazing, the aroma hitting you as soon as the plate touched the table. Chill ambiance and serving staff is friendly and helpful. Will come back to Montreal just to dine here again."

The Best Food Trucks in Montreal to Eat on the Street

With Chef Martin Picard dominating Montreal’s culinary environment with his foie gras-heavy menus at his restaurant and cabane à sucre, it should come as no surprise that the Pied de Cochon food truck’s menu includes a foie gras poutine. If that sounds too heavy at the moment, opt for the absolutely delectable chicken croquettes that come with a maple reduction sauce for dipping -- the sweet and salty pairing is everything umami should be. (Pro tip: if you just want the croquettes, you can pass over the line of people waiting for their poutine -- head to the cash-and-croquette only second window.) Since there’s always room for dessert, stuff your face with the beignets dripping in maple syrup.

Who Would Get the Stars

Even though they are welcomed with open arms by everyone in the province, poutine and pouding chômeur are not exactly a staple on the international scene. Under the skillful hand of Martin Picard, who chose to make them the centrepieces of his cuisine instead of the traditional European cuisine, these dishes have been improved and deepened, resulting in a restaurant where chaotically luxurious food is business as usual. You'll find foie gras served by the shovel and maple syrup practically pouring from the ceiling.
