Ever think there's a bunch of unnecessary pomp and pretensions with poured wine by candlelight and wonder why booze and burgers can't be good enough?. One of Montreal’s newest late night hotspots is proving itself as more than just a place for good-looking people to come drown their sorrows in cocktails. The tartare here is excellent, but it’s the massive burgers and the hearty boeuf Bourguignon that have really captured our hearts at this French-American diner.

Many of Groupe Barroco’s bars have a retro inspiration to them, such as the French discotheque interior of Atwater Cocktail Club and its chic diner attaché Foiegwa that sports its own mid-century diner features; the cocktail bar Milky Way exudes touches from the 1980’s and 90’s thanks to its vaporwave features; and their newest bar Bon Délire, opened in February 2023, is a mash-up of Americana and old-school features unique to Montréal, such as pawn shop decals on their street-facing window.

Foiegwa - This restaurant has been open for a while and I have been dying to go because I have seen it on so many list regarding ‘Best restaurnats in Montreal’s downtown’. Every time I visited Montreal in the last two years I had it at the top of my list of places I wanted to eat, but it wasn’t until this last trip that I was actually able to go and let me tell you, it was worth the wait!. The food here was spectacular although a little pricey*.

In the heart of St-Henri, we begin with a bit of humour at this French-with-hints-of-American restaurant, Foiegwa. The name was inspired by how anglophones pronounce foie gras–without the ‘Rrr’–which is one of the many French words Americans and Canadians butcher. Speaking of butcher, Foiegwa serves-up a delectable selection of meat: dishes like their boeuf bourguignon, their poached black cod, and their locally-sourced, organic fried chicken.

Crafted out of an abandoned space and repurposed into an elegant diner, this sleek eatery is known for serving gourmet regional cuisine that includes the best brunch in Montreal. However, contrary to what you might think, the prices are totally reasonable and the portions are generous. Why You Need To Go: This Saint-Henri restaurant is known for a lot of delicious dishes, but among everything on the menu here, their house spaghetti reigns supreme. It’s been on the menu since they first opened for a reason: Mounted with butter, topped with slices of black truffle, and served with a jammy, 64-degree egg with a heap of parmesan, it’s an exceptional plate when you’re craving noodles.

Le menu décadent et riche en saveur complimente très bien le décor invitant et l’ambiance chaleureuse, et le tout se prend très bien avec un de leurs fabuleux cocktails.

Their incredible brunch menu will leave you asking for more, maybe even some “foiegras”– their specialty.

Situé dans l’ancien local de la Belle Province de Saint-Henri, le Foiegwa est un French Diner américanisé qui fait tabac dans le quartier. Moelleux à souhait, ses pancakes à la ricotta sont accompagnés de bleuets et de sirop d’érable pour une touche sucrée fort appréciée. Foiegwa offers stylish brunches in an elegant and cozy setting. A must-try is their Croque Monsieur, accompanied by breakfast potatoes, creamy coleslaw, homemade ham, and Swiss cheese. There are only two words to describe the pancakes from this Americanized French diner in Saint-Henri: blueberry and cottage!. We can do nothing more than describe this creation whose ingredients speak for themselves. To praise it with adjectives, even the most flattering ones, would not do it justice.
