As a deli-cum-diner, Snowdon rivals the likes of Schwartz’s for the best smoked meat sandwich in the city, and has that delicatessen beat when it comes to range. Potato knish, latkes, and varenikes are sold to-go the dozen, but breakfast dishes like the smoked salmon or swiss cheese and sour cream latke benny are worth sitting down for.

Snowdon Deli has a loyal clientele, and they come for the delicious matzoh ball soup, matzoh rolls, and even the rich cheesecake. They have a diverse menu that includes corned beef, kasha knish, roasted brisket, and, of course, smoked meat sandwiches. Who better than my Montreal-born father-in-law, Louis, who could give me the family history while we ate karnatzel at his beloved Snowdon Deli and tucked in to the time-honored breakfast of hungover McGill students—the "mish-mash" at Beautys Luncheonette?. I called Louis in Texas, where he's lived for nearly 50 years, and told him to hop on a plane.

Where does one go for an authentic Montreal smoked meat experience?. The first choice was a no-brainer, the second choice sort of won its spot by default, and choice #3?. Snowdon Deli's got heart and Snowdon Deli's got soul, but it doesn't benefit from the choice, central locations Reuben's and Schwartz's have, which may explain why it doesn't get as much buzz.

Since 1946, Snowdon Deli has been recognized for its famous smoked meat in Montreal. Located on Décarie Boulevard, this restaurant offers a warm and friendly atmosphere with retro 70s decor. An underrated Deli overshadowed by the big players in the city. From humble beginnings, this deli in the city’s Côte-Des-Neiges neighborhood has been serving up tasty delicatessens since 1946. If you are in the area these guys are worth stopping by for large portions and potentially the best-smoked meat in the city.

Though not technically located in Old Montreal, we decided to reward ourselves and end our Old Montreal day at the one and only Sno wdon Deli. This iconic deli has been serving smoked meat sandwiches since 1946, and it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. The food here was unreal – and with service to match!

But the choices of deli items at Snowdon Deli (established 1946) is much longer and more diverse. “No other deli in Montreal carries the full range of traditional Jewish dishes that Snowdon does,” Sax explained in his book. The menu includes matzo ball soup, lox, and knishes.

SIt is another famous place where we can get the best-smoked meat sandwich. It is located at Sainte-Catherine Street West, and it has been serving Montreal smoked meat for 40 years. Here we can get old-fashioned smoked meat and brisket are hand-carved.
