Reviews Summary

Toqué! is celebrated for its artful and delicious Quebecois cuisine, with many diners praising the creativity and execution of the tasting menu and the exceptional service. However, some find the high price point not fully aligned with the overall experience, and a recurring point of concern is the chipped plates, which detract from the fine dining ambiance for some guests.

"Lovely experience. The food was delicious and offered a thoughtful journey through in-season Quebecois cuisine, but what truly stood out was the staff. Everyone who took care of me was kind, welcoming, and a joy to talk to—especially the main bartender, who curated a full mocktail pairing to accompany my meal. I really appreciated not feeling left out of the drink experience just because I wasn’t drinking alcohol. Their attentiveness made the evening feel personal and memorable. I had a wonderful time."

"An unforgettable dining experience! The food was delicious and artfully plated! Thanks chefs for adjusting the entire tasting menu to fit my dietary restrictions with care and creativity. Each wine pairing came with a well told captivating story. Our waitress was warm and attentive, and the bartender dazzled us with creative mocktails. The cozy, elegant ambiance made it all the more special. A true feast for all the senses!

While I truly appreciated the experience, the high price point didn’t quite match the overall wow factor I was hoping for — which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5."

Yousra K

"Absolutely wonderful food but not a cheap dinner experience. The cost isn’t for just for the food but for the attentive staff as well. You are not dining out to save money at this restaurant but to burn a whole in your pocket. However, the taste experience will stay with you forever. As it ignites your tastebuds."

The 25 Best Restaurants In Montreal 2024 - Montreal

In a city known for its current fine dining and farm-to-table obsession, Toqué was the first market-driven restaurant to list its producers right on the menu (and they’ve stayed with those same producers for the past thirty years) and their seasonal cocktails and dishes set a culinary standard for the city’s dining scene. The minimalist yet warm dining room opens onto Place Jean-Paul Riopelle, with a view either to the park outside or to the wine cellar inside. Lunch here is a nice option: a two-course table d’hôte with your choice of appetizer and main, like a classic red wine onion soup or foie gras, duck confit or a suckling pig for a main, and à la carte, beautifully presented desserts.

Where to Find the Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in Montreal

Chef Normand Laprise’s stronghold of French-meets-local fine dining is also a gluten-free dining secret in Montreal. The chef avoids gluten in his own diet and his $152 seven-course tasting menu is often primarily gluten free or easily adaptable. While no kitchen with homemade sourdough can guarantee zero cross-contamination, Laprise’s legion of well-trained chefs make gluten-free diners feel in good hands, from the first bite of marinated flounder with rhubarb blood orange, melon radish and sweet cicely mousse to the show-stopping maple-cooked duck breast.

Restaurants in Old Montreal (Vieux-Montreal)

Frequently named one of Montréal's best restaurants and Canada's third best by Canada's 100 Best (canadas100best.com), a meal at Toqué!. is not so much about sustenance but rather about experience. Toqué is slang for "a little stubborn," as in the chef's insistence on using fresh, local ingredients; consequently, the menu changes daily in accordance with market offerings but foie gras, duck, and wild venison are on constant rotation.
