Reviews Summary

Anh and Chi is celebrated for its innovative Vietnamese cuisine, with standouts like the Bánh Xèo and candied sablefish receiving high praise. Diners consistently commend the restaurant's flavorful dishes, generous portions, and the chic, cozy ambiance. While the food is considered exceptional and worth the price, some patrons note long wait times due to its popularity.

"Anh and Chi is absolutely worth the hype—delicious, flavorful, and a total must-visit in Vancouver!
We had such a great time here. The menu is full of variety and packed with bold, umami-rich flavors. We tried their famous Vietnamese pancake (Bánh Xèo) and it was incredible—crispy, savory, and totally crave-worthy. It does take about 30–40 minutes to prepare, but honestly, it’s 100% worth the wait.

We also had the candied sablefish dish and wow—it was amazing. Melt-in-your-mouth, sweet and savory perfection. And there was this noodle dish (can’t remember the name!) that was equally delicious and comforting.

We were on the waitlist but ended up getting a table for two in just 10 minutes, which was such a nice surprise. The inside is super cute and cozy, and the bathrooms oddly gave me nostalgic Asia vibes—in the best way possible!

It’s definitely on the pricier side, ($25-$40) but for the experience, quality, and flavor, it’s so worth it.

Highly recommend for date nights, friend catch-ups, or just treating yourself to next-level Vietnamese food with a modern twist."

"Absolutely loved our experience at Anh and Chi! The food was outstanding — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The portions were generous, and we left feeling more than satisfied. The appetizers were fantastic and set the tone for a great meal. Their drinks were also amazing — creative, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. On top of all that, the service was warm, attentive, and professional. Highly recommended and definitely a place I’d love to come back to!"

Afsaneh Zandi

"Delicious Vietnamese food! I understand now why this place awarded for 3 (2022-2024) consecutive years the Michelin guide. The restaurant has a modern atmosphere with a nice tropical decoration. Staff is friendly, our waitress has an exceptional knowledge of the dishes and made good recommendations. Food feels authentic and tasty, the spring rolls were crispy in the outside but juicy and rich in flavors in the inside, plus the sweet-citric sauce combined perfectly with it, the beef noodle soup was amazing, the broth had an intense flavor, super yummy, big portion for 2 people easily, the sorbet was the grand finale, the fruit flavors were extraordinary. I will definitely go back to try other items of the menu. This was a pleasant food experience. The only negative point is the wait list (around 30-40 minutes), understandable due to the good food quality served in here, but people that arrived after us, entered first, which was not quite fair."

Vancouver’s Best Asian Restaurants

The brother-and-sister team have crafted a clean, cool space outfitted with midcentury modern furnishings while nodding to the past—a blue neon sign by the bar is a relic from the former restaurant. For more than thirty years, their parents' restaurant occupied this spot, but Anh and Chi now welcomes a new generation of diners. Inspector notes: "The menu is a love letter to Vietnam. Gỏi bắp chuối cua lột, a salad of chopped softshell crab piled high atop a banana blossom, is cool and bursting with flavor. Chạo tôm bánh hỏi is prepared in a classic way, with grilled prawn mousse served with an array of fresh herbs, and there is pho, of course. The dessert menu changes daily, but if on offer, the house-made coffee mousse is a standout.

Restaurant Awards 2024: The Best Vietnamese Restaurants in Vancouver

Longtime Restaurant Awards followers will know that categories change every year, with some rotating in and out to make space for others. Best Vietnamese hasn’t seen our awards stage since 2020, but that’s not to say this much-loved category of restaurants hasn’t been serving up excellence in that time—in fact, our top two are both under five years old. So, let’s give an overdue ovation to our 2024 gold winner Crab Hot Lau and silver winner Wooden Fish: the former a daring East Van spot that’s reaching icon status for crispy crab spring rolls; the latter a vibrant West Van eatery known for indulgent braised short rib stew and house-made chili garlic sauce.

The Nguyen siblings don’t shy away from talking about how their roots inspired the redux of Anh and Chi (previously Pho Huang, as owned by their parents), so it’s no mistake that the design pays homage to its origins. Inspired by the lushness of Vietnam, the Mount Pleasant restaurant features a custom wood pattern bar, and behind it, panels made of hundreds of chopsticks that mimic Vietnamese fans. Palm-printed wallpaper (notably in the restrooms) and imported Vietnamese wall tiles converge to give an air of modern and retro design sensibilities.

MICHELIN Guide honours eight Vancouver restaurants with a Star

The style of a restaurant and its degree of formality or informality have no bearing whatsoever on the award. Service doesn’t factor into the judging process, either. “It’s entirely up to the restaurant to decide what style of service it wants to offer – and that has no bearing on a Michelin Star”, the guide states.
