Reviews Summary

Minami is celebrated for its exquisite Aburi sushi and upscale dining atmosphere, often described as an extraordinary experience with impeccable service and divine food. However, some diners have noted high prices and smaller portions, with occasional service lapses impacting the overall satisfaction.

"Minami was an extraordinary dining experience. It was like walking on cloud nine the entire night. It was the most special dinner of my five-night visit to Vancouver! The service was impeccable, and the food was simply divine. I can’t express my gratitude enough for this incredible place. They have a lovely patio with comfortable seating, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. The food blew my mind. The server, manager, and all the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Vancouver.

Please Note: I’m into vibrational frequencies and this place was ABOVE AVERAGE in good vibez = go there for special occasions and you shall be in for a treat! (Yes the dessert trio is worth it!)"

Jordan White

"The restaurant has a nice, slightly upscale atmosphere, and while the food was okay, it didn’t quite meet expectations given the high prices and small portions.

We ordered octopus, which unfortunately was a bit overcooked and had a burnt taste. When I politely brought it up, the waitress responded in a way that felt dismissive and a little rude—saying that I shouldn’t have eaten it if I wanted it changed, even though I wasn’t actually asking for a replacement. That kind of attitude left a bad impression.

Overall, the experience was just average—decent food, but not memorable, and the service left room for improvement."

Mohammad Moridi

"I had the most incredible dining experience here. The tasting menu is truly authentic Japanese cuisine — every course was beautifully presented and thoughtfully balanced. From the delicate sashimi to the seasonal hot dishes, each bite highlighted the chef’s skill and respect for ingredients.

The service was warm, attentive, and never rushed, allowing us to enjoy the full progression of flavors at a perfect pace. The atmosphere is intimate yet welcoming, making it ideal for both a special occasion and an evening of discovery.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for an authentic Japanese tasting experience that goes far beyond the usual sushi spot."

Known for innovative Aburi-style (sear-torched sushi), Miku and Minami are two best romantic restaurants in Vancouver to check out or any other occasion really. 10 Best Sushi Restaurants in Vancouver

The speciality at Yaletown’s Minami is aburi oshi sushi—lightly pressed and flame-torched rectangles of saucy, mouth-melting sushi bliss. Rolls here are delicious, but nothing compares to the buttery bite of the salmon oshi sushi (easily reason enough to visit) and the lime-spiked bite of the ebi oshi. The atmosphere, in keeping with the neighbourhood’s yuppie-ish character, is slickly refined and “big date” appropriate, though you may easily pop in for a casual lunch.
