Drawing inspiration from Italy and Spain, they offer classic Spanish small plates such as patatas bravas (potatoes with a spicy sauce) and pan con tomate (toasted bread with tomato, garlic, oil and salt) alongside braised meatballs and Margherita pizzas. A bit random, sure, but pair it with Wine Wednesday, with glasses for CA$7 (£4) and selected half-price bottles, and you won’t be thinking too much about it.

Proving once and for all you can never have too much of a good thing, Caramba!. ’s contribution to this exalted list is a combination of two hearty comfort foods executed with the restaurant’s usual Mediterranean flair: mac-and-cheese pizza. This rib-sticking creation swaps out the usual tomato sauce in favour of a rich cheese sauce base made from a mix of mozzarella, cheddar and Boursin, topped with macaroni noodles and a drizzle of truffle oil, before being fired in a wood oven.

While there is a small selection of vegan options, the wood fired vegetarian pizzas are a must have in this Mediterranean inspired restaurant. The Fungi pizza features various mushrooms as the topping, while the Pesto and La Rua pizzas ensure the decision for vegetarians is not easy. Whistler truly is a resort town that recognizes it receives visitors from all over the world.

The pizzas in theory are available on a gluten free crust but when I enquired the cooking processes were not coeliac safe. Worth a check in case they have updated their processes.

Caramba is a family style Italian where you can get decent pasta and pizza. The Brewhouse (a pub) has a restaurant attached which is very kid friendly. These two are pretty close to each other and near the Marketplace (not especially handy for you though)

is a family-friendly restaurant in the heart of the village, near the Whistler Public Library. Its pizzas earn rave reviews, but this long-time locals’ favourite also offers fantastic seafood and pasta dishes.

I am very ho-hum on the food at Caramba and Mongolie Grill, to be honest. But I'm also coming up short on where you can go for dinner that's not too expensive (and not sushi).
