What is it: Falafel Place may have moved locations a few times over the decades, but Winnipegers have been relying on its signature breakfast to start their mornings since 1986. Why go: This low-key Mediterranean restaurant has been a Winnipeg landmark for over 30 years. Make sure to say hello to owner Ami Hassan, an ever-visible presence that is affectionately notorious for rushing diners out when they’re finished to make way for more customers.

Falafel Place is a renowned Middle Eastern breakfast spot that is also a haven for gluten-free diners on a budget. This reserved restaurant offers delectable morning fare at a wallet-friendly price point, making it the perfect choice for those who want to savor gluten-free goodness without breaking the bank. Stella’s is an institution found throughout the city where all the breads, pastries, etc, are baked in house; at Miss Browns breakfast is served all day and they have killer breakfast sandwiches, smoked meat hashes, and a super delicious shakshuka; Tallest Poppy has awesome food and hipster charm; while at Falafel Place being rushed from your table after your meal is all part of the ambiance (even The New York Times loved it).

Extremely well-known in the Winnipeg culinary scene, Falafel Place has been around for decades. This bustling restaurant serves Middle Eastern cuisine, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. With everything made fresh daily, you know you’re always going to have a hot and tasty meal (and usually have leftovers to take home, as the portions are extremely generous!).

Since deep-fried options weren’t our first choice for our children, we became experts at scoping out the affordable places with grilled cheese sandwiches (Kay’s Deli, Star Grill), mac and cheese (Bistro 7 ¼, Saucer’s), falafels (Falafel Place-Caution: cash only) and spaghetti (Bellisimo, Old Spaghetti Factory). Of course pizza was always a good option too (Mona Lisa, Santa Lucia).

They have a huge menu here, prices are reasonable, and this definitely qualifies as a locals favourite breakfast joint.

It’s not fully vegan, but the options are clearly highlighted on the menu and my boyfriend and I literally used to go on a weekly basis because we couldn’t get enough. Better yet, the prices are cheap, but the portions are NOT. You don’t get what you pay for, you get WAY more and will always leave feeling satisfied.

This Israeli eatery offers the perfect breakfast to soak up any lingering effects of the night before. Try the falafel breakfast platter, but don't be surprised if you can't finish it. These guys don't fool around with portions.

The owner claims that customers say his is the best apple strudel and baklava in town!. You can also try the hummus, veggie burgers, couscous, potato pancakes, meatless soups, and foul (fava beans). Vegan items clearly marked.

Since 1986 Ami Hassan has catered to Winnipeg with marvelous Mediterranean food. Falafel for breakfast, Falafel for lunch, Falafel all the time. Falafel place in Winnipeg makes this possible.

Tasty enough falafel, however I always get the impression that they load mine down with onions so they have to put less falafel in.
