The corner of Wilhelminastraat in downtown Oranjestad, once the location of iconic hardware store Brenchies, became home to restaurant Wilhelmina in October 2015 and Maroc Restaurant & Tapas in 2016, which later transformed to Mediterranean Restaurant Olivia. In January 2018 Carte Blanche relocated and opened its doors in the same Brenchies building. Here, Chef Ries, the current chef of Carte Blanche serves his 5-course surprise menu, while Glen, maître d' since the opening of Carte Blanche in 2010, provides suitable wine pairings.

This hidden gem is a local favorite and after one visit I can see why. Additionally, the decor and design are sleek and modern and the open garden seating area was as tropical as this island. Several menu options we enjoyed was the Veggie Escabeche which was pickled vegetables with smoked pumpkin dressing and a goat cheese falafel.

They tout “World Cuisine” à la carte menu using high-quality ingredients from around the world and are based in downtown Oranjestad. The restaurant is named after Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands who reigned for nearly 58 years, longer than any other Dutch monarch. (More of that Dutch influence again).

Je denkt dat je de gezellige tuin binnenwandelt, maar dit is ook echt het restaurant. It may be one of the pricier locations on the list, but it’s definitely worth it. With ingredients imported from all over the world, every dish is made with the highest quality products. This restaurant is perfect for a romantic date for two or even for a small party of extended family.

This was a decadent 4 course dinner with some of the most delicious fresh fish dishes and scallops. You can sit outside in a tropical oasis with warm candle light. We started with the homemade truffle ravioli and seafood salad and both were perfect.
