What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Donglaishun is celebrated for its authentic Beijing-style hot pot, particularly its high-quality, tender lamb and rich sesame dipping sauce. The historical ambiance and generous portions are frequently praised. However, some diners have noted issues with service quality, including inattentive staff and communication barriers, and a few have found the restaurant to be stuffy or overpriced, suggesting alternatives for a better experience.
"Authentic Beijing-style hotpot with rich broth and super tender lamb slices. The sesame dipping sauce is amazing! Classic atmosphere with great service — a must-try if you want a traditional Chinese dining experience.”"
Steve
"This Chinese hotpot restaurant, established in 1903, is highly renowned and has multiple branches across Beijing. Its signature feature is the large, intricately decorated hotpot. Customers are required to pay for the soup and select the size of the pot, with the larger option providing a more enjoyable experience. The restaurant offers generous portion sizes. We ordered the lamb, which appeared to be a popular recommendation, and found it to be satisfactory."

"1) Super stuffy and hot with no air ventilation. They should add fan for the most corner table.
2) ordered the mushroom soup, it us just clear soup with few bits of mushroom. Suggested to take the normal clear soup or mineral water soup.
3) lamb meat was soft and tender
4) suggested to take the set meal as we tried to order ala cart and the price is about the same as set meal.
5) staff service are bad and seem untrained. Very different lower standard than normal beijing customer service level. The table next to us has to keep calling the staff and remind them to bring sesame sauce for 2x because the staff forgot and ignore"
