Day and night, dumplings are being made by hand, boiled and fried at the original branch of Mr. Shi’s in Baochao Hutong and at the Sanlitun outpost. This is not your corner dumpling joint but a cleaned-up space where the menus are in English and the menu overflows with more than 50 varieties of dumplings. There are the traditional—think pork and chive or leek and egg—and there are the unusual, such as pizza (cheese and tomato).

If you want to have an excellent Chinese meal, Mr. Cheese Dumplings restaurant offers you the most delicious dishes and items, as the restaurant offers an amazing variety of Chinese food represented as follows: chicken with orange sauce, aegroll stuffed with chicken and meat, chicken with honey, in addition to several dishes for people Vegetarians like aegroll stuffed with vegetables, vegetables cooked with vegetables, Chinese sauces, and more.

One of my favorite dumpling restaurants is Mr. Shi’s Dumplings (老师饺子). There are many locations, but the most popular one with a great outside ambiance is in the hutongs by the Bell and Drum towers. There are many dumpling options, including traditional pork/vegetable boiled dumplings, as well as some interesting “Western” flavors like chicken and cheese and chocolate and apple.

If you love dumplings, be sure to visit Mr Shi’s Dumplings in Beijing. We heard about this place and decided to hunt it down, luckily Mr Shi’s lived up to the hype and we found ourselves eating here more than once. You’ll find the menu in English if your Chinese is a bit rusty, and the servers had no trouble taking our order with us pointing out what we wanted.

Not sure how long it’s been open but I spotted a Mr Shi’s Dumplings on Xingfucun Middle Road as I headed to April Gourmet. I’ve been to two other Mr Shi’s, in Baochao Hutong and close to Yashow, and found the dumplings decent if pricey. They taste way better if you’ve already had a half-dozen drinks and are jonesing for snacks.

From tiny hole-in-the-wall to Beijing chain, Mr. Shi’s has become an institution in Beijing. They’re famous for their fried and boiled dumplings. But what we love the most is that there is an almost absurd amount of flavor combinations suitable for vegetarians, carnivores and everything in between.

Cozy and welcoming, the more convenient Sanlitun outpost of this Gulou original serves the same menu of boiled and fried dumplings, pork, shrimp, and vegetarian, with over 30 combinations to choose from.
