"I really loved coming here. The people were kind and local. The food was really heartwarming, in such a big city. I went back throughout my 4 day stay in Beijing."

Penny

"One of our favorite breakfast spots located just opposite our hotel. Many locals and tourists come here for a quick breakfast.
The baozi store is rather small compared to its crowd. We often have to wait for a while to get a table.
The baozi was just nice, and we prefer their dumplings. It was very satisfying having the baozi, dumplings together with the soy bean or Xiaomi zhou.
The price is affordable as well."

CK Tan

"Love the dumplings and soybean drink!"

Qing Feng Steamed Dumpling Shop, a chain canteen of Beijing staples, shot to fame in late 2013 when Chinese president Xi Jinping was photographed paying for his own steamed buns at the 3 Yuetan Beilu branch. There are outlets all over the capital, but we recommend this one just for the kudos of eating where the Chairman does.

Qing-Feng, a stuffed bun shop, has remained a firm favourite among Beijing residents since its opening in 1948. The interiors are simple, and the service is hands off. However, the main attraction here is the steamed dumplings, which are stuffed with a range of fillings from juicy pork and fennel to egg and chives.

Beijing was the capital city for the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Except for the Ming Dynasty, all the rulers of these dynasties were from northern nomadic tribes. For those 500- plus years, the dishes available from Beijing's catering trade were dominated by meat dishes, which corresponded to the eating habits of the ruling class.

These popular dumpling shops offer good quality food at remarkably cheap prices. The stores’ setup has barely changed over six decades (they still use a cafeteria-style ticketing system).
