"Chunji Roasted Goose is very popular in Guilin. I went there at 11:20am on a Sat. morning for lunch and found it 40% occupied. I was told for dinner, one is advised to make prior booking. I ordered 3 dishes.
1st a salad-type dish made from the roots of what the locals call 魚腥草, literally means grass that tastes fishy. The dish is a bit spicy but refreshing. I did not find it fishy but it does have a unique taste.
2nd is cold goose slices marinated in citrus juice. Just meat and skin, hardly any bones. The juice infused the meat and the result was amazing.
The last dish is strange, it was made of seaweed and mushroom, then packed into little patties and was pan-fried (NOT deep fry). I couldn't taste the seaweed and only a bit of the mushroom.
I enjoyed all 3 dishes. There is also a self-serve fruit bar that comes for FREE.
All this cost 102 Chinese Yuan, what a bargain! No wonder the kitchen behind glass looked super busy - by 12:30pm when I left, there were no less than 20 people waiting for tables on the ground floor!"
