The Nest

The red-brick Art Deco Rock Bund neighbourhood is home to super-hip restaurant, bar and lounge The Nest. The lift opens onto slick mid-century modern interiors; light woods, cappuccino leather chairs, curvilinear lines and what looks like a giant glowing slinky toy suspended above the bar. The menu sways more towards seafood – grilled Canadian lobster, clams with pasta, ink black calamari – but there are enticing options for carnivores and vegetarians too.

The Place: Perennially cool lounge does more than just nighttime hijinks. During the day, it transforms into a light-filled space with a brunch menu that skews towards seafood, and drinks specials on Grey Goose vodka, "cocktail salad" (drinks with vegetable and fruit juices) and sparkling cocktails. This place is one of the most luxurious nightclubs in Shanghai, which delights its customers with high-quality music, modern sound systems and high-quality drinks. It is interesting to know that there is no entrance fee in this place.

Either end or start your week by slurping French Fine de Claire oysters on the cheap at this sleek Bundside lounge. Available every Sunday and Monday, the oysters are served with a fermented tomato and olive oil dressing and go by the dozen for 98RMB.

Even more chic on the refinement scale of the Bund, here’s the The Nest. However I should mention that the atmosphere is rather relaxed. Great cocktails and even restaurant service.

Qualities: The open terrace with a view of the Shikumen complex is a standard of "Nordic minimalist style" in Magic City and is a good place to take pictures and mingle.

Super popular bar / restaurant / lounge by nightclub brand Muse Group and Grey Goose vodka, right by the Rockbund Art Museum. Good design, good drinks, great food.
