Demente BAR TAPAS

Emblematic of this fast-changing, formerly working-class neighborhood, Demente is a trendy tapas bar housed in what is supposedly the area’s oldest home. Opened last year by a Spanish-trained Bogotá native, the bar has wooden rocking chairs — several of which line the sidewalk — and Pop Art on the walls, including mirrors painted with silhouettes of Gandhi, Michael Jackson and Woody Woodpecker. With one of the few beer taps in the city, an impressive selection of imported booze and a tapas menu that may include small plates like sardinas a la plancha (grilled sardines, 8,500 pesos) and the gazpacho-like cold soup salmorejo con jamón Serrano (9,000 pesos), Demente is a prime spot for passing time before Cartagena’s notoriously late-night night life gets going.

Helped, in part by its perfect location on the Plaza de la Trinidad at the heart of the neighborhood, but the trendy interior, particularly the open-air garden courtyard, makes for a handsome locale to spend the evening. Great tapas, local craft beers, and a smart cocktail menu draw a reliably good crowd, and the low-key, funky soundtrack makes Demente the best spot in Getsemaní to start off a night out. Thin-crust pizzas, fresh from the oven out back, are among the city's best.

It’s fair to say that Demente was at the pointy end of the bar trend in Cartagena. It opened in the Getsemani area of the city in 2015 and hit the ground running with style, service, and a great selection of rums, cocktails, wines, and beer on tap (unusual at that time). Demente remains one of our top go-to bars in Cartagena and they’ve since expanded their craft beer offerings and opened a legit pizza place behind the original location in addition to the expanded tapas menu still offered at Demente.

Wet your whiskers and line your stomach in Getsemani’s tapas and bar palace - well, crumbling colonial house—in the city’s coolest barrio. With amazingly hipster, ‘just got out of bed’ interiors this place is, quite literally, the drinking hole (the bar has no roof) to be seen in any night of the week. We can’t get enough of the sour green mango margaritas, stone baked oven pizzas and cultured soundtrack, all best enjoyed under the stars of the hidden outdoor terrace out back.

You can't visit Getsemaní without going to Demente; "Facebook"), a dark hideaway featuring rocking-chair dining and an ever-changing menu. Its cocktail list offers drinks like the green mango daiquiri, which adds a bitter edge to the classic rum drink. Don't leave without taking one of its signature shots: licorice-smacked Aguardente (Colombia's signature spirit made from sugarcane) or the Madre Sucia, which is coffee-infused rum and tequila.

A tapas bar that, according to a local historian, blends the lines between reality and the dream world. This local haunt channels the rustic soul of its facade-less building, combining it with modern and minimalist design for results truly out of this world. A pleasant bohemian ambiance includes a varied selection of Spanish and Caribbean tapas including patatas bravas, oxtail, fried dumplings and octopus dishes.

Although not fully vegetarian, Demente in Getsemaní offers numerous veggie-forward tapas and wood-fired flatbreads in a beautiful colonial courtyard with modern flair. Shareable plates like roasted carrots with goat cheese, grilled mushrooms, and chickpea hummus cost COP 20,000–40,000 (€4.50–9) each. Its romantic setting under string lights makes it a favorite among both vegetarians and omnivores.

On an unassuming street corner just outside of the walled city, you’ll find Demente, a dimly lit hipster hot spot filled with trendy locals and well-informed visitors. It’s located in the up-and-coming Getsemani neighborhood—ostensibly the “Williamsburg” of Cartagena. The Spanish tapas–style menu is designed to let you leisurely graze on dishes with friends throughout the course of the evening.

Just mere steps from the famous Plaza Trinidad, Demente is one of the best bars in Cartagena for tapas and high-quality drinks. It’s also one of the trendiest places in the city. From the retractable roof to the designer touches and even the cool rocking chairs, there’s a lot to love about Demente, and that’s not even touching on the delicious tapas they serve.

Demente Bar is best known for their delicious plates of tapas, brilliant drinks, and upscale design. The nightclub typically hosts a cool, cultured crowd, especially after refurbishing the venue to create a minimalist touch. Demente offers an eclectic playlist that will keep you in your seat and a group of the friendliest bar staff you’ll ever meet.

If you’re looking for nightlife in this Colombia beach town, this is a good place to start. We ended up coming here twice on our trip because the ambiance was so great and the tapas menu was top class. Everything we ordered from the crab dumplings to the ceviche with chicharron to the pizza was well cooked, packed with flavor, and well presented.

Demente is a restaurant/bar in Getsemani that was recommended to us by a friend, and it ended up being our go-to dinner place in Cartagena (we went there twice and would have one a third time if it wasn’t closed on behalf of the Pope’s visit!). The menu featured a vegetarian section with around 5 tapas options. We sampled them all!

Demente, located on the Plaza de la Trinidad in Getsemaní is another one of the coolest Cartagena bars. They have one of the better selections of craft beers and liquor menus in town, and a neat, relaxed vibe. It fits in perfectly in the trendy Getsemaní, where you’ll find lots of the hippest cafes and Cartagena hostels.

Head to Getsemani for tapas and some of the best vegetarian food in town. Laze in the outdoor rocking chairs and watch the world go by as you cool down with local beer on tap and hum along to the bar’s eclectic music collection. Don’t skip on dessert — the coconut cream pie is one to write home about.

Demente, an open-roof spot serving tapas and legitimately delicious pizza alongside craft beer and great cocktails, is set amid the buzzy atmosphere of Getsemaní. Whether you go for lunch or dinner, it’s an ideal jumping-off point to explore Cartagena’s trendiest, street-art adorned neighborhood.

Demente is a delicious and cozy tapas (and pizza) restaurant in Getsemani. We sat inside and people-watched out the window on to Trinity Square, but there’s a big backyard with long communal tables that looked really nice!. We shared 4 tapas between two of us and had some good wine and beer.

If you have money to splurge, I recommend eating at Demente Tapas Bar at Plaza Trinidad. Demente gets a bit of everything right. My favorite is hanging out in the back garden with the wood-fired pizza oven and the big fan that makes you escape the humidity of Cartagena while having dinner.

Demente is right on Plaza de la Trinidad has a front room with smaller tables, and a back beer garden with communal tables. They have a menu of wood-fired pizzas with interesting toppings (we had zucchini on ours), as well as a mix of tapas dishes, from crab dumplings to creole potatoes.

When a place is this cool and the people this nice, it’s hard not to become an instant acolyte. For all its hip design, Nicolas Wiesner’s space remains grounded in the neighborhood spirit of Getsemaní. The exterior is unreconstructed, there’s a retractable roof that connects Demente…

This place is just plain cool and one of our favorites on our list of the best bars in Cartagena. The stripped-down, laid back vibe is complemented by the bare brick walls and no-nonsense drink menu. Demente‘s claim to fame is their food which is a play on traditional pub fare.

Overlooking the Trinidad square, Demente is the trendy bar in Getsemaní. Two atmospheres, Open room or patio, minimalist decor among old stones, groovy and funky music, many liquors and cocktails, which are accompanied by good pizza and elaborate tapas.

To close out this list of the best Cartagena bars, I’m including my favorite spot for pizzas in Cartagena. Demente is located just off the Plaza de la Trinidad in Getsemaní. They have a nice open air beer garden outback and a decent bar inside.

First, its location right off Plaza Trinidad in the colonial and trendy Getsemani neighborhood is ideal. Then there's the food. The place does a great mix of fusion tapas like crab dumplings, tuna tartare, and pork with chimichurri sauce.

Firstly, the location right on Plaza de la Trinidad, which gives way to pretty spectacular people watching. Secondly, the tapas-style menu. And, thirdly, the really good cocktails that will start your night off in the best way.

This quirky bar is known for its creative cocktails and laid-back vibe. The bartenders are friendly, and the drinks are strong. You’ll find plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and the atmosphere is always lively.

Cab or walk (via the clock tower) to bohemian Gestemaní for dinner at Demente. This rustic and laid-back restaurant – with rocking chairs for seats – offers divine tapas. Arguably, the best food that I ate in Cartagena.

Demente, just off the Plaza de Trinidad in the heart of the neighborhood, has pizzas, small plates (don’t skip the albondigas) and killer cocktails, and on nice nights they’ll open up the retractable roof.

Some of our favorite places include the Caribbean-themed sushi at Kokoa, the brick oven style pizzas and beer garden at Demente, and the street cart style food at the hole in the wall of Esquina de Yina.

El Barón: it is a very elegant place, located in the historic center of Cartagena. It offers creative cocktails and the decoration and lighting of the place create a quite sophisticated atmosphere.

The Spanish tapas and drinks at Demente are out of this world, and especially fun to enjoy with a group. The restaurant’s retractable roof allows you to dine under both sun and stars.

Customers can expect a vibrant atmosphere, delicious tapas dishes, and a variety of cocktails at Demente Bar Tapas. The venue is known for its friendly staff and engaging environment.

Demente Tapas Bar is a great place for lunch, this rustic corner bar is atmospheric, and we loved the tasty wood-fired pizzas and cheeky midday cocktails.
