Reviews Summary

La Casa de Socorro is celebrated for its authentic Colombian coastal cuisine and generous portions, with many diners highlighting the delicious seafood and affordable prices. While the food receives high praise, some reviews mention slow or inattentive service, potentially due to understaffing. Despite occasional service complaints, the overall culinary experience makes it a recommended spot for experiencing local flavors.

"Looking for a good meal, we wandered into this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised! Our host, Catherine, expertly recommended dishes that my cousin and I thoroughly enjoyed. We started with the incredible smashed fried plantains (though I can't recall the specific name) and fried blue fish. My cousin ordered a refreshing passion fruit drink, while my mango and passion fruit blend was, I must say, a winning combination. For our main courses, my cousin had the flavorful shrimp in garlic sauce served with coconut rice, lettuce, and those delicious smashed plantains. I opted for the snapper, which also came with coconut rice, salad, and smashed plantains. Catherine was also incredibly thoughtful, offering to charge my dying phone. Overall, I had an exceptional experience at this establishment. As an added bonus, the bathroom was clean and modern, and the entire restaurant was refreshingly cool – a real treat in Colombia!
A best deal, all this food came up to $54.00 tip not included."

"Worse fish restaurant I have ever been. The mixed fish platter was nothing that could be served if it was in London. Cold fish and over buttered and fried calamari with cold prawns and sauce. Not to mention the not fresh fish with cold sauce. Management response to comments was nothing more than oh sorry you feel that way. I would never ever recommend it to anyone.."

"La Casa del Score in Cartagena offers an exceptional culinary experience that deserves high praise for its outstanding food. The dishes were a delightful mix of flavors, showcasing the chef's creativity and commitment to quality ingredients. Each plate was beautifully presented and delivered an authentic taste of Cartagena, making it a true highlight of our visit.

However, while the food was impeccable and worth every bite, the service fell short of expectations. The restaurant appeared to be understaffed, leading to delays in orders and slower service throughout the evening. Although the staff was friendly and courteous, it was evident they were stretched thin, which impacted the overall dining experience.

Despite the service challenges, the incredible food makes La Casa del Score a must-visit for anyone who values exceptional cuisine. We hope to return and experience it again, hopefully with more attentive service that matches the high standards of their kitchen.

Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Service: ⭐⭐⭐"

Eating and Drinking My Way Through Cartagena

My husband and I ventured outside the walled city to check out Restaurante La Casa de Socorro for lunch, a perfect spot to dine when walking to or from the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas — the greatest and strongest fortress ever built by Spaniards and an important part in the history of both Colombia and South America as a whole. Nestled in the Gethsemane area, which is a bit grittier than the old town district, the restaurant is definitely a local favorite: We were the only gringos in sight. We started with two large coconut lemonades — a frothy concoction that could make you swear rum was in there somewhere.

Church-going and club-hopping in Cartagena, Colombia

We indulged in fresh seafood at La Casa de Socorro, a home-style restaurant where, before it's cooked, you choose your red snapper—or any other available type—from a tray displaying three whole fishes. The final dish, a local favorite, includes coconut rice, fried plantains, and a salad. Since I was treating I was happy to see the bill total less then $25—a moderate price by Colombian standards.
