Probably one of the best-known places in La Fortuna is the Restaurante y Pizzería La Parada, right in front of the bus stop (hence its name) on the south side of the town square. This restaurant has a pretty extensive international menu at a reasonable price, and the food is also good. This is probably the best place to go with a big group because most likely everybody will find something they want to eat.

If you are asking around town for Costa Rican food in La Fortuna, you will likely hear about Soda La Hormiga. A cut above the rest, the open-air restaurant on a backstreet offers some of the best Casado and rice dishes. I enjoyed the Casado con Bistec (Casado with steak) recommended by my server, which came with rice, picadillo, salad and beans.

For a taste of homemade Costa Rican comfort food, Soda La Uvita is a must-visit. This family-owned eatery offers a cozy atmosphere and a menu that highlights regional specialties like gallo pinto (rice and beans), tamales, and empanadas. Don't miss out on their refreshing natural fruit juices made from tropical fruits grown locally.

Located next to the bus terminal in La Fortuna de San Carlos, Soda La Hormiga specializes in traditional dishes and natural drinks with some of the best prices in La Fortuna. The price range is $2.00 to $8.00. They serve Latin, Central American, and Costa Rican cuisine.

It’s nothing fancy, just a casual outdoor restaurant with good food and service, you’ll see plenty of locals dining here when you visit. La Hormiga is located near a bus stop that is always busy and is family-run. They serve fresh, tasty meals in large portions.

When considering where to eat in La Fortuna, you cannot miss eating at a soda – a family run, “fast food” – type restaurant. Sodas are the absolute cheapest places to eat, and they have some delicious food.

There aren’t many restaurants I fell in love with and would visit again in La Fortuna, but some that may be worth trying are Soda la Hormiga, Pollo Fortuneño, and La Choza de Laurel.

Soda La Hormiga, meaning “the Ant Soda” is decorated as such with an ant statue in front. It’s in the downtown area and one of the higher rated sodas in La Fortuna.
