Reviews Summary

Apotecario is highly praised for its exceptional cocktails, creative food menu featuring local ingredients, and its unique, mystical atmosphere. Reviewers often highlight the attentive service and the enjoyable live music, making it a standout dining experience in San José. While most experiences are positive, some diners have noted occasional slow service, especially during peak hours, and occasional order inaccuracies.

"We had a delicious meal and even more amazing cocktails here! The service was great and the restaurant itself was a lovely space. Highly recommend!"

Louisa B

"We arrived at 7:30, we had to wait for a table about 20min, but there were 3 people behind us that were seated before us, no reserve, just because they were more, so as the waiter said, it was because they had to fill the place, so that was a bitter entrance. Although the bartender was very nice and served the drinks. He received the order and when the table was ready we were taken to it. The service was a little slow but the place was packed so it was fine. They have live music but not all the places can enjoy it because it was in another salon.
We asked for a mixed charcuterie but they got the wrong order and sent only cheese, so we asked them to change it and it took longer to be served +10min. As soon as they brought the entries we started eating it was really good. And then they brought the main dishes. We ordered the Osobuco and the Tagliata, both were good and tasty, the Osobuco and the Lomito were cooked perfectly. My recommendation for the restaurant is that the pita served was too much so at the end I left a lot and the Osobuco was a little too spicy and the flavor or the meat was a little lost.
My overall is that it is a good restaurant, the food is tasty but its forte is the cocktail and drinks over the food. The service maybe it was overwhelmed because the place was full."

Perfect Day: San José, Costa Rica

I’ll grab a beer or kombucha at Apotecario, one of my favorite spots where they brew their own beer and kombucha and then walk through the rest of Barrio Escalante, the city’s most vibrant neighborhood. You’ll see everyone catching some sun in Parque Francia, where there is often live music, someone selling fresh mango or orange fruit juices, or a guy who sells amazing Chemex coffee from a bike cart. From here I’ll head downtown to take a stroll down Central Avenue, stopping for an ice cream Pops across from the National Theater or have a coffee in Alma de Cafe in the National Theater.
