A recent visit to Dubrovnik, Croatia and I went to Konoba Dubrava one night for a super traditional dinner called Peka! They were kind enough to show me behind the scenes in the kitchen and the effort they go through to make these dishes, and let me tell you it’s worth it as this was some of the most amazing meat I’ve ever had! Slow-cooked for hours under the iron lid known as the Peka, the meat ...

Konoba Dubrava offers a unique dining experience with authentic Croatian cuisine, particularly its signature Peka cooked under an iron bell. Diners rave about the tender meats, generous portions, and exceptional, friendly service. The stunning hilltop location provides a beautiful ambiance, although pre-ordering is essential for Peka dishes.

"A MUST in your stay! Wow! This restaurant was authentic and what an experience it was, absolutely exceptional. Our server Bojan made our experience even better, even our hostess who greeted us with complimentary shots! Just wow! I recommend ordering the food ahead of time so you can get to try something in the iron Bell, we had the octopus and mixed meats and fried donuts and tres leches! Just everything was perfect from the potatoes to the donuts! Thank you Konba Dubrava and Bojan for the experience and the meal!"

"Super lucky to have had the chance to taste the Pekka because someone else cancelled their order. Need to order ahead of time though - takes 3 hours to make. It’s amazingly tasty, juicy, tender. Tried the mixed pork and lamb. And Marco took us to the kitchen to show us how it’s made. Got to try."

Michel Cloutier

"This place was recommend by two Uber drivers during our visit in Dubrovnik. We loved the food and whole experience. Our group was a family of 4. Two of us ordered the peka, a slow cooked meal that needs to be prepared and ordered the day before, we choose the octopus and the mixed veal and lamb. The kids both had the chicken dish. The waiter was awesome! He offered to take our picture and was very friendly. We also got a tour of the kitchen where the food is grilled. Get the strudel with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Amazing!"

The 10 Best Restaurants In Dubrovnik According To A Local Food Guide

Out of the Old Town, you’ll find the charming Konoba Dubrava in the village of Bosanka on the top of Srđ Hill. “If it is not too hot in the summer, it’s best to take the cable car first, then have a nice walk along the hill to get there,” Matičević says. The restaurant is most famous for peka, or sač, which is meat and potatoes baked under an iron lid, almost like an ancient oven.

The best restaurants and things to do in Dubrovnik, Croatia, according to a local

Dalmatian peka — a meal prepared over a fire or ashes, in a pot with a bell-shaped top — is a Croatian culinary tradition, and Dubrava’s expertise in the art has made it one of locals’ favorite restaurants. Under the high bell temperature, meats release and mix juices and aromas, which gives the meal a distinctive flavor. The lamb on the spit is also delicious here, although it likewise takes a lot of time to prepare.
