With quirky artwork adorning the walls, stacks of cookbooks on the shelves (including a couple by the owner, a successful food writer), and a super welcoming atmosphere, Pantarul is the kind of restaurant where you linger for a few hours, eat a great meal, and leave with a few new friends.

The ever-inventive Pantarul (meaning ‘fork’ in Dalmatian dialect) has evolved from a simple bistro into one of the leading lights of Dubrovnik’s dining scene. The **Pantarul** restaurant in Dubrovnik, whose name means "fork", provides a superior fine dining experience in a pleasant, intimate setting that reminds you of the feeling of home. For appetizers, we tried steak tartare and ceviche. Although ceviche is not part of the permanent menu, it was part of the weekly offer and delighted us with its refreshing combination of sour and fresh notes, ideal for awakening all the senses.

Run by cookbook author and food blogger Ana Marija Bujić, Pantarul is a pioneer in helping to reinvent gourmet Dalmatian fare for locals and visitors alike. Culling old recipes that were nearly lost to history and then sometimes putting a worldly spin on them, Bujić created a menu of dishes like spaghettini with mussels and chorizo, and cuttlefish and samphire risotto, that will win over the fussiest palates.

Set on a busy street in Lapad neighbourhood, location isn’t exactly what brings people to Pantarul, say Vera and Frank. The selling point of this particular restaurant is the “casual but lively ambience, good service and enticing food”, so it’s really no surprise the place is always packed.

As one of my favorite restaurants in Dubrovnik, Pantarul was founded by food blogger and cookbook author Ana Marija Bujic. I think it effortlessly incorporates a medley of modern Dalmatian dishes with ingredients from farmers in Konavle and župa. I like the relaxed vibe that is warm and inviting and makes for a great setting for a special occasion or celebration.

Pantarul which translates to fork in Croatian, is a Dubrovnik institution for a restaurant that cooks their food based on seasonal ingredients. From fresh seafood caught in the sea to meat brought in locally, the quality here is always top notch. Get their Gourmet Burger, which is a decadent burger that has oozing and melting cheese dripping off its sides.

Pantarul is one of the most modern restaurants in Dubrovnik and offers fantastic food. It was started by a local food blogger, Ana-Marija Bujić, along with her husband Milan Vasić, and their friend Đuro Šiljug. Milan and Đuro are a well-known duo in the kithen and they honed their craft in the iconic local restaurants of Nautica, Proto, and Orsan.

If you’re craving a more contemporary dining experience, Pantarul in Lapad is your go-to spot. With its "from field to table" philosophy, the menu here emphasizes fresh, local ingredients. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere, combined with a menu that changes with the seasons, ensures that every visit offers something new and delectable.

Located outside of the busy Old Town, Pantarul is the most modern and innovative dining experience we had in Croatia. Using fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients, dishes are served in smaller portions, allowing diners to indulge tapas-style. If you’re staying in or around the Old Town, you’ll need to catch a cab to Pantarul.

We aren’t really surprised but the winner and the best restaurant in Dubrovnik in our Tripadvisor countdown is (drum roll please) Pantarul. Much deserved position for this eatery in the Lapad suburb of Dubrovnik. In a relatively short period of time it has set the benchmark for dining out in Dubrovnik.

When I eat out, I go to Lapad: at Pantarul, they have a creative way of using local ingredients. Magellan, Nishta (vegetarian), and Shizuku (Japanese cuisine) are also on my favorite list.
