What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Luka Ice Cream & Cakes is celebrated for its artisanal ice creams and inventive cakes, with unique flavors like lavender and rosemary ice cream, and delicious creations like the Split Cake. While many praise the creamy texture and delightful taste, some recent reviews suggest a decline in quality after a name change and ownership shift, with occasional issues regarding food quality and service.
"Split cake was something unusual! The texture and taste contrasts of dry figs and almonds with the rest of the ingredients was brilliant!
The cappuccino was excellent, although I think it needs a little more dosage of coffee!
The outside seating area is small and nice. There is also a small inside seating area.
They have ice cream too that looks good, but I haven’t tried it.
Highly recommended!"
Mishal Almudhaf
"WARNING: My croissant had hair on it and the waiter just returned it to the platter to sell once again after I told him!
Longer explanation:
Went there before I saw all the recent reviews of ownership change and that it's not the same quality as before. We sat down, tried the pistachio paris brest - it was dry and the cream inside only has a hint of pistachios.
Croissant on the other hand, had tiny hairs barely visible to the eye, but the sun made me catch one and on closer inspection there was more (I counted 4). I pulled the biggest one out on the dark napkin (so I can show it to the waiter and kindly let him know) he acted surprised, didn't even look at it tbh and sourly apologized, offered another for exchange and put the one I brought in back on the platter...he acted as if I made it up and didn't care at all.
Good thing I took a picture because I felt a bit gaslighted by his reactions, even though I doubled down and said "it happens" because I wasn't there to be dramatic, but to let him know. I'm sad I didn't tear the croissant apart so he couldn't sell it, absolutely disgraceful and unacceptable!!"

"The cheesecake ice cream was nice, yogurt ice cream tastes like medicine. Chocolate cake was nice but the pistachio cake tasted a bit odd. There’s lots of mosquitoes inside the shop."

The Best Places For Dessert In Split, Croatia
Consistently praised as the best ice-cream parlour in Split since opening in 2014, Luka also has the most choice for gluten and dairy-free customers. It’s not cheap, but their lush creations with fig, blueberry or pear, are worth it. Cakes, cheesecakes and pastries are also available.
Split, Croatia: From Gritty Port to Posh Resort – Camerons Travels
Locals swarm at the pastry and ice-cream shop Luka, scooping up cones of homemade gelato with some interesting local flavors, such as lavender or rosemary (Svačićeva 2). Delving deeper — into a scene that feels like one big lowbrow party, with the natives decompressing from a busy day of dealing with tourists — you’ll pass cafés, bars, “pizza cut” windows, and more. To satisfy your sweet tooth, look for Stari Plac (with dessert crêpes); just beyond is Sexy Cow, with a hip white-subway-tile interior and a tempting menu of decadent, top-end burgers (Zrinsko Frankopanska 6).
A weekend in Split
When I’m travelling I try to eat at least one ice-cream a day (for research purposes of course.) Although not quite up there with the best of the best, Luka Ice Cream is very good. The best part about Luka is its unusual flavours like watermelon, honey and lavender, and mojito. Luka is located just outside the prettiest part of the old town, so grab your ice-cream and walk back down toward the palace to find a more interesting place to sit and watch the world go by while you eat.

Hungry Abroad: Split, Croatia
Matt needed me focused and ready for what he considered the main event of the day – dessert at Luka Ice Cream and Cakes. We skipped the indoor seating and headed straight for the walk-up counter outside. An older woman running the fryer suggested a waffle cone filled with fritules (remember those sweet donuts we’d already had that same morning?) and house made ice cream.
