Uje Oil Bar is an elegant tapas-style restaurant situated right in the heart of Split, opened a few years ago by local olive oil retailers and delicatessen specialists. With a passionate focus on the very best of Mediterranean cuisine, a meal in the restaurant’s friendly farmhouse kitchen is the perfect companion to any Croatian dining experience. Uje Oil Bar may have been the meat-loving Blonde Croat's favourite restaurant, but as a seafood enthusiast who loves her luxury Bajamonti is hands down the highlight of my Split culinary experience. Everything about this restaurant was perfection: the pastel pink neoclassical buildings of Prokurative (Republic Square) on each side, flanking a stunning view of the Riva and the Adriatic sea beyond, the seasonal flowers that decorate the table, the attentive and exceptional service (on our second visit the waiter remembered us and our pudding was on the house!), and the food...oh God, the food. I can't decided which was more orgasmic: the scallops baked in cheese, the handmade black noodles with lobster, or the flat noodles with heaps of seafood and cooked in the most incredible fish sauce.

Located in the heart of Diocletian’s Palace, near the Iron Gate, the first Croatian bar dedicated to olive oil is an excellent place for a day or evening break from the hustle and bustle of the city, perfect to enjoy the original flavours of Dalmatian cuisine with a glass of wine. In addition to the bistro, Uje Oil bar has also a wine bar, a small fish shop where the catch of the day is displayed, and an oil shop of the sister brand Uje, where the professional staff will guide you through tasting their local products, such as olive oil, excellent jams and other various snacks. The menu changes seasonally, but you will always find the traditional Dalmatian dishes, often with an interesting extra element.

While not exclusively a wine bar, Uje Oil Bar deserves a spot on this list for its unique offering an excellent selection of Croatian olive oils and complementary Croatian wines. Located near the historic Peristyle square, Uje Oil Bar showcases an array of premium extra virgin olive oils from the region, which serve as the perfect accompaniment to their carefully selected wines. The bar’s warm and inviting atmosphere and the charm of olive wood and terracotta décor create a sensory experience that celebrates the Mediterranean’s finest offerings.

Located on the corner of intersecting alleyways in an (until now) little traversed corner of the Palace precinct, Uje is filled with the kind of solid wooden furniture that makes it feel like a welcoming farmhouse kitchen. Shelves packed with jars of wholesome-looking preserves serving to bolster the homely feel. The menu changes according to what’s in season and includes many of the more old-fashioned things in the traditional Dalmatian repertoire – fish soups, dishes with beans and pulses, and much more besides.

Uje Oil Bar is a stylish café located right in the heart of Split, launched a few years back by local delicatessen specialist and olive oil retailers. This restaurant provides breakfast, a small but steadily changing selection of the main menu, a few tapa-style dishes, and samplings from its collection of more than 40 olive oils. With a passionate emphasis on the finest of Mediterranean cuisine, dinner in Split in this bistro’s welcoming farmhouse kitchen is the ideal companion to any Croatian food experience.

Fear not, this does not mean you have to do shots of EVOO, but rather that its offering centres on olive oil and other traditional local ingredients. The bar also serves as a shop, offering a wide selection of Croatian olive oils and olive-based products. For breakfasts (or “marenda”, as locals call it), you can pick your favourite savoury foods from a variety of bruschettas, cheeses and olive oils.

As the motto of the restaurant says, they offer Dalmatian soul food, but we have to say that they are being modest. One of the first finger food restaurants in Split evolved through the years and became a go-to Dalmatian food destination, and its excellent position in the city center and dining area make it one of the top charming restaurant choices in Split.

Tucked on a cozy corner of Diocletian’s Palace, Uje Oil Bar serves traditional fare with a touch of panache. Utilizing local products – including cheeses, meats, pastas and, of course, olive oil – the meals at Uje are exceptional. You can order many different things but they have fantastic cheese + meat + veg + etc platters to pair with their oil and wine.

This beauty is located in the heart of the old town and is preparing sublime Croatian classics. They centre their dishes around locally sourced ingredients and their signature olive oils. The meal started off with a gorgeous bottle of Croatian Plavac Mali and a homemade green olive tapenade.
