We headed to Liburnska obala to find The Garden, Zadar’s trendiest drinking spot. Perched atop the city walls, The Garden offers superb views across the harbour to the new town, and feels more like an exclusive beach club than an Old Town bar. Occupying what was previously the overgrown garden of an abandoned hotel, it boasts an interesting selection of beers.

The children loved lying on the day beds admiring the yachts returning to harbour after a day at sea. We enjoyed the pre-dinner cocktails!.

The boatmen of Zadar, called barkarioli, have been rowing their wooden barges and ferrying loyal customers for over 800 years and more recently clubbers visiting The Garden in Old Town. This tradition has been carried from father to son for centuries and they can be identified by their well worn, sea battered blue and whites.

This rooftop bar offers stunning harbour views, chilled vibes and a great music selection. There are secluded shaded hideaways,, laidback sofas, day beds and tables dotted about; we could easily spend a couple of hours here, and indeed we did. We lingered over 2 white wines (£4.50 each) served with ice and admired the view.

Right in the town center, The Garden is owned by two former British muscians who brought their excellent taste to the musical programming. In accordance with the tranquil scenery, the sounds are mellow and perfectly attuned to everything from snacks to cocktails to dinner.

Despite rockstar owners (two members of Brit reggae group UB40), the music is nu jazz and mellow house. Spread before the harbour on the city walls, this al fresco bar is blissfully Balearic. It's a lovely hangout during the day, with good vegan and vegetarian food.

Those in-the-know knock back heavily-iced glasses of Maraschino, the cherry-flavoured liqueur first distilled in Zadar in 1821. Don’t peak too early: late afternoon is for “fjaka” (Dalmatia’s zen state of aspiring to do nothing) and bars only spark to life later.

The Garden Bar is a great lounge bar located on top of the old city walls in Zadar. The view overlooks the main harbor so you can watch the passengers ships as they go by. They even have beds so you may relax as much as possible with your drink.

The most beautiful is perhaps The Garden, started by the former drummer in the band UB40. The address is Bedemi zadarskih pobuna bb at the top of the Venetian fortress wall. The Garden hosts the festival in early July.

From the day it opened, Garden became a popular spot to relax on the comfortable white sofas of the huge terrace with a gorgeous view, and enjoy the music coming from the state of the art sound system.

A great location in the old town with low level cushioned seating to really sink into the sunset vibe. Specialist cocktails are a bit pricey but worth buying a couple just for the view.

A local friend told me about this bar which quickly became a favourite spot. To start with, The Garden is pretty cute with nice views. They also have delicious drinks and some food.
