A pleasantly airy American-style bakery and café counter, Bakeshop Praha sells familiar U.S. favorites, from avocado BLTs to entire pumpkin pies. Though it gets crowded during peak lunch hours, there is indoor seating, and the space, with penny-tiled floors and ceiling moldings, has a retro charm. But the takeaway sandwiches, bagels, giant cookies, and good coffee make it easy to grab and go.

This is a lovely upmarket bakery in the quirky streets behind the Old Town Square, baking delicious breakfast pastries, bread and cakes. The breakfast works slightly differently here – you can pick anything from the menu (eggs, bacon, ham, tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese, roasted potatoes, onion or spinach) and the end price is calculated based on weight (75 CKZ for 100 grams). In my experience this works out about the same as if you had a set menu somewhere else (slightly upmarket), so budget about 150-200 CZK per person for a large breakfast.

There’s excellent selections for savory breakfasts and deli-style lunches, as well as a great assortment of pastries and cakes.

A pastry shop that we returned to each day of our stay was the aptly named Bakeshop. They had a huge selection of cakes, cookies and pastries, but what had us coming back each day was the amazing fruit galette. I had a plum and apple and a cherry and apple one during my stay, and both were delicious (also pictured is a walnut calvados tart and a couple of cookies for Mr Man).

A perfect location to catch a break from sightseeing activities, Bakeshop offers a large array of classics, from omelets and soups to burgers and pies. Every day, the bakery prepares a new batch of delicious pastries as well as a variety of warm caffeinated drinks.

Bakeshop (Kozí 1, Prague 1 tel. 222-316-823): Yes, it's pricey for a bakery, particularly one in central Europe, but who can resist those loaves of sourdough bread, muffins straight from the oven, cookies, and brownies, not to mention the range of lunch items like sandwiches, salads, and big bowls of chili?. Eat at the counter along the window or take it with you.

Bakeshop may not be the most traditional bakery in Prague, but it is one of my personal favorites. This French-style spot, located in Prague’s Old Town, serves up the best darn cakes in Prague, fantastic coffee and hot chocolate and pre-prepared meals. I’ll go so far as to say Bakeshop has the best hot chocolate in Prague, no competition.

This is an American-style bakery with two locations: One in Old Town, and one in Malá Strana. White and whole-grain bread, baguettes, walnut sourdough, challah, French country loaves, bagels, croissants, and a bread containing cheese, black pepper, and onions are all available here. Pre-made sandwiches can also be bought.

You’ll see the little stands on every corner, the smell of sugar and sweet dough calling you to them. And while these little sweets are delicious, don’t forget about the strudels and tarts and real jelly-filled donuts, to mention a few delicacies. If you have more of a sweet tooth, Bakeshop is the place.

There are two bakeshop locations: one across the river in New Town and one near Old Town Square and the Jewish Quarter. Both offer a fabulous breakfast and brunch every day until 3 p.m. Their pastries are absolutely incredible and include everything from cakes and brownies to croissants and danishes.

Some very eye-catching and unique products that looked perfect for an easy take-out included the Princess Cake with an interesting design, and their Mascarpone cakes that either come in strawberry or chocolate flavor (the Mascarpone cakes are only available on Fridays and Saturdays).

This establishment is located in the heart of Old Town just steps away from Old Town Square. It has become a household name in the area for its baked goods. Everything in the shop is made from scratch and 100% fresh as goods are baked daily.

Many people come here to look for gourmet food; Bakeshop Praha is right next door, and the Gourmand. But we are also close the Jewish Quarter – the Spanish Synagogue is just a few metres from here.
