Located inside an opulent 19th century former bank building, the backdrop to the canteen-style dining hall is completed with original murals and figurative sculptures by Czech Art Nouveau sculptor Jan Štursa, alongside custom-designed furniture and copper lighting by architect Rudolf Netík. We visited on recommendation from my friend Dave, of Man vs. Globe, and it turned out to be the culinary highlight of the trip!

Opened in March 2017 by the former staff of the now shut down Cestr and the butchers of Nase maso, Kantyna is a shrine of meat in a former bank building that serves Czech heritage breed of cows and fresh Pilsners to very happy, by now mostly very obese, patrons. Their version of steak tartare is beautiful: very zesty from crushed green peppercorns and watercress, the zing just pops in your mouth. This is probably the most "fresh-tasting" steak tartare in town, if there ever is such a thing.

This is a very cool bar and restaurant with an interesting concept. Much like Lokál, you get a piece of paper when you enter the bar. On one side is your drink order and on the other side, is your food order.

Kantýna is a former bank transformed into an upscale pub-restaurant. Upon entry, you’ll receive a ticket to keep track of your wine and food orders throughout your visit.

Instead, I’d recommend seeking it out at Kantyna, a restaurant I unfortunately didn’t have a chance to check out but heard raving reviews about.
