What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kantyna is celebrated as a carnivore's paradise, with many praising the high-quality, fresh meats and unique butcher-to-table concept. Diners love the vibrant atmosphere and the ability to select their own cuts. However, some find the pricing to be on the higher side, and the self-service, communal seating can be overwhelming for those seeking a quiet or intimate dining experience.
"Super nice meat canteen for everyone! Food is excellent. It’s quite downtown area so it’s easy to find. But not easy to find a table as you have to grab one yourself so you need to be agile to get one. Recommend beef tartar, the soup and the pig ear! Great taste! Will definitely come back"

"Tried the pulled pork and was quite disappointed — it was the antidote of itself: very dry, chewy, and lacking flavor. Oddly, it cost the same as the beef, which looked much better but was also on the chewy side. For the price, I expected something far more tender and juicy. Service was fine, but the food didn’t live up to expectations. Wouldn’t return for the meat dishes."

"Good food, for meat lovers. Ordered beef steak and burger for kids. These ones you choose from fresh meat counter and they prepare it for you, food comes quickly. While we waited, we ordered potato pancakes and ramsteak from ready to eat counter, you can choose exact amount, they weigh it and you take it. Great and cheerful waitress, quick service. I am giving a 4 star because of the price in the end. You don’t know the whole time what it costs. We paid more than 100€ for the amount of food we pay 70-80€ in other restaurants in Prague. But I would visit again!"

Coffee culture, art and contemporary design
Not one for the veggies though, Kantýna is a unique dining destination that seamlessly blends butchers shop with a modern steakhouse concept, revolving around high-quality meats sourced from local Czech farms. Located inside an opulent 19th century former bank building, the backdrop to the canteen-style dining hall is completed with original murals and figurative sculptures by Czech Art Nouveau sculptor Jan Štursa, alongside custom-designed furniture and copper lighting by architect Rudolf Netík. We visited on recommendation from my friend Dave, of Man vs. Globe, and it turned out to be the culinary highlight of the trip!
Best beef steak tartare in Prague
Opened in March 2017 by the former staff of the now shut down Cestr and the butchers of Nase maso, Kantyna is a shrine of meat in a former bank building that serves Czech heritage breed of cows and fresh Pilsners to very happy, by now mostly very obese, patrons. Their version of steak tartare is beautiful: very zesty from crushed green peppercorns and watercress, the zing just pops in your mouth. This is probably the most "fresh-tasting" steak tartare in town, if there ever is such a thing.
